Time to give our man some credit.

'I wish I could break this great divide, be with you there on the other side, together we'll scale this mountain high, we never could run this river dry'

It fits the mood of Sabotage so well and sends shivers down me

I'd vote for half the lyrics from the other forum (the silly ones) for this thread. The silly/ sublime line is all too often blurred. (Particularly from where I'm standing - er, wavering. haha.) "What the hell is happening? I can't think of everything. I don't know what day it is, or who I'm talking to."

  • particularly the way it's delivered. Basically, a lot of Barney's lyrics effect me - silly or sublime - on account of the delivery. The due is given, Bryan

Funny how good old Barney allways gets more quotes for silly lyrics than for sublime ones...:D

I can't see the sense in you leaving All I need is your love to believe in And for you I will do what i can But I can't change the way that I am

Now seriously, All the Vanishin Point lyrics. And did you notice how someone's silly lyrics can be someone's sublime ?

It's shaft, no doubt. :D

'Chat' would have been nicer though, don't you think?

Two of my absolute faves, one from As It Is When It Was.................. I don't feel anything no more This state of grace is consuming me I'm not grown up and I am not a boy I feel no pain and I feel no joy

....fit me to a T when Brotherhood came out......

The other appeals to my irreverent streak about saying things just to get an effect on another person, to see if they're listening, from 60 MPH............

You can take me to an island, ride across the stormy sea We can worship pagan idols, there together you and me[

Yeah, but then I'd have to change my signature. And there isn't a chat smiley.

i don´t know if these are great, but they mean much to me

"what´s good a lie when there´s nothing to hide" (very true!)

"if you read between the lines you´ll hang your head in shame" (it´s a great closing for all of the things he was yelling at his father on Sunrise)

"i was so upset, you see, almost all the time you used to be a stranger, now you´re mine" (i sing that to my girlfriend every time ;) )

"In a world where I'd forgotten you I found myself forgotten too" (great poetic line)

it doesn't take a lot to confuse me i'm not aware of the passing of time and i'd like to say to those who accuse me could you do it while you looked in my eyes PRIMITIVE NOTION

by four o'clock you were pretty high lyin on the floor lookin at the sky CLOSE RANGE

you've got a VICIOUS STREAK for someone so young

i feel so extraordinary something's got a hold on me i get this feeling i'm in motion a sudden sense of liberty TRUE FAITH

oh it's a strange day in such a lonely way i saw some people dance i watched my life in a trance ...some people look down on me i hope they like what they see TRUTH

I'm probably going to get panned for this one:

It's never enough until your heart stops beating. The deeper you get, the sweeter the pain, Don't get up again, until your heart stops beating. -ShellShock

On the contrary, brilliant lyrics and a GREAT song! if I may indulge: 'I've been good and i've been bad but a fucking twat I've never had':evil4: Solitude lp

Some of my faves:

"Well I always thought We'd get along like a house on fire In those days when the sun was warm I ran in the street where I was born"

some of mine go like...

Feel your heartbeat lose the rhythm He can't touch the world we live in Life is short but love is strong There lies a hope that I have found

Who is this man That follows me This blue eyed boy Who wants to be

This worthy cause Of human kind This bomb set off by time

This is a song about an innocent Who died at the hands of a desperate man He trusted those who he thought he knew He trusted those who he looked up to

Indeed, I had almost forgot about those brilliant lines. That disappointing TOTP performance has made me underrate this song, eventhough it's one of my favs.:nonono:

Everyone has their favorites and here are mine:

From New Order: "As It Is When It Was" - I know my version of the lyrics differs from the standard version but this is how I heard it the first time and how it still sounds to me, perhaps I'm wrong but who cares?

The streets are so empty at this time of night I'd rather walk on my own than fight In a world where I feared God in youth I find myself forgotten truths But that's the danger of believing books And all the lies of those thieves and crooks Who sing intellectual songs of love From a stolen pen to a velvet glove

Its kind of the lyrical cousin of Run Wild (And we're not like / All those stupid people / Who can't decide / Which book to read / Unless the paper/ Sows deceit)

Another great lyric from Electronic: "Late at Night"

We all need someone Like the Earth needs the Sun But our faith will be found In this life, on the ground

Short, sweet but pretty profound

From New Order: "Vanishing Point" - Anyone who's had a relationship turn sour can understand this one:

My life 'aint no holiday (I always thought this was pretty ironic considering when they recorded this song) I've been through the point of no return I've seen what a man can do I've seen all the hate of woman too.

Its hard to quantify what makes Bernard's lyrics great. He certainly has more than his share of silly dribble and forced ryhmes. But when he gets one right its really good in the sense that when you listen to it you can say to yourself - "Yeah I've felt that same way."

Yup, that's why I had to include the 'music out...' bit, even though it ain't a lyric:nod:

Someone's got to go for the obvious:

Blue Monday has very dark and profound lyrics, open to interpretation and esoteric. Just why we like the Order!

I was going to say that too! Definitely up there with NO's best. See my signature for my other favourite: sums up my life so perfectly that to this day, I still gasp with shock every time I hear it.

another favorite:

"I spent a lifetime working on you, and you won't even talk to me"

it makes me think of being infatuated with someone you will never have.

Some fantastic stuff coming in here. The more personal stuff from Brotherhood really moves me, so here's some of my own faves:

"Whatever you think of me, you listen hard and I will make you see"

"You told me a pack of lies that I can't even reason with"

"Even though you're stupid I still follow you"

And pretty much all of Broken Promise, really.

geez there are really so many...stream of consciousness here is;

Just wait till tomorrow I guess that's what they all say Just before they fall apart

It was always special It was like water down the drain I'm intoxicated Every time I hear your name I try to remember But nothing is the same

There's not a hope While you're in this kind of mood Too much to drink But not enough to lose

But it's too late to wash my hands I'm caught in a trap Set for a man

All of Face UP but especially

Ever since I've seen your face This life of mine has gone to waste I was young and you were old And I always knew you were cold

At the start you had a heart But in the end you lost your friend Can you see your own dark face? It's dieing in a lonely place

And I'm not the kind that likes to tell you Just what you want me to You're not the kind that needs to tell me About the birds and the bees

tons more really
