I just came across this in an interview with Steve Lillywhite. Anyone know the backstory here?
"U2 in the early days were very intense. They'd made one single with producer Martin Hannett (who worked with Joy Division) and he was too freaked out after the death of Ian Curtis to work on the album with U2 and I was there."
The tune is Eleven O'Clock Tick Tock, as I recall. An excellent song from U2's earlier and better days...
I guess it is included on that "Martin" compilation, which I could never get my hand on a copy...

You're right, as usual. I was fortunate enough to buy this compilation at a very reasonable price some time ago. I can make a CDR copy for you, if you want.
I've searched for more info at that Martin Hannett website (http://freespace.virgin.net/anna.b/hannett/hannett.htm) but all they say is: "rumour has it that although hannett scared these stalwart young lads quite a bit, their collaboration was successful enough that he was hired on to twiddle the knobs for their first proper album, boy. the rumour goes on that hannett pulled out of the session at the news of the death of ian curtis".

Why on Earth are they interviewing Bono on NO Story????? Does he not get enough attention elsewhere??????? I thought U2 peaked with their live album, before they hooked up with Eno. I do however, reserve the right to play Unforgetable Fire in times when I need to chill out and go to sleep. that album is best reserved for heavy sedation, it sounds best that way.
All their recent stuff has really turned me off.

Bono was at the height of his "I am God" phase when NO story was filmed - first he claims that Joy Division led to goth, and then he can't even get the words right when trying to sing LWTUA.

Aye. I'm using this Eno avatar not only because he's a great "non-musician" and producer, but because I actually look a bit like him. This picture is creepy for me. It's like having a time machine and being able to see yourself in the future, older and balder.

Sorry to be a pedant, but Brian Eno only composed the start-up sound for Windows 95, not the later versions. I've checked the additional info of each Wav file using Wav-Info and only the W95 one gives credit to Eno.
