John Peel's Festive Fifty - 1981

Rummaging through some boxes of old tapes I came across a recording I did of Peel's Festive Fifty in December 1981, from #22 down to #1, with all Peel's gags and commentary such as it is. Top ten reads:

10. Clash - White Man in Hammersmith Palais
11. Dead Kennedys - Holiday In Cambodia
12. Cure - A Forest
13. JD - Decades
14. Undertones - Teenage Kicks
15. JD - New Dawn Fades
16. NO - Ceremony
17. JD - Love Will Tear Us Apart
18. Sex Pistols - Anarchy In The UK
19. JD - Atmosphere

That was the year JD/NO took over the fifty, with Transmission also at #14 and Dead Souls at #11 too. IALP was at #54 which apparently was Peel's locker number at school. What an interesting fact.

Marko has fond memories of buying Warsaw and Komackino when they first came out. Joy Division once played practically on his doorstep but he didn't bother to go because there would be plenty more chances to see them ...
