IMO the new Chemical Bros. single Golden Path is just fantastic.

The lyrics were written/sung by Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips.

Buy 'Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots'. Stupid title for an album, but nevertheless one of the best LPs released last year. 'Ego Tripping At The Gates Of Hell' from that album is a gorgeous tune, great to listen to on long summers evenings.

Starsailor are fantastic live at the moment - went down a storm at the Isle of Wight festival both this year and last year. Well worth seeing, if you get the chance. The material from the forthcoming album sounds extremely well-written and confident.

Spot on! When I first heard it, I thought it was an Echo & The Bunnymen lost single from about 1985! Love the music but the lyrics sound kind of awkward to my ears, needed more work. And Wayne Coyne sounds more like Ian McCulloch than himself on this one.

i'm gonna disagree on this one. i love the Chems - it is a great backing track but the vocals sound to me like he's just making it up as he goes along and it doesnt fit IMO. it sounds like he's trying to be too profound and as a result, sounds like its heading up it's own arse.

They're a great band and I am pretty sure you must have heard their "Race for the price" from their album "Soft Bulletin", it was played to exhaustion at Xfm in (I think)the Summer of 1999 even Radio 1 played it some. A gorgeous song with beautiful lyrics and fantastic when played life.

Golden path just strays from "genius" into "up their own arses".

The first line, I agree, does sound like Ian McCulloch, but then goes into a Johnny Cash impersination.

The tune is not a miilion miles from EGG/Tmeptation. The NME review said the tune was like Joy Division. I kind of see what he's getting at.

On first listen sounds a bit like Isolation.

...maybe a little of U2/Johnny Cash "The Wanderer" too.

I recently borrowed the last 2 Lips albums from a friend and my humble verdict is that they suck - crap vocals, too much out of tune instrumentation, song structures too free form for my liking. The Chem Bros tune sounds good until Mr Coyne opens his yap.

Which version of Where the Streets Have No Name? The original by U2 or PSB's take on it?

Just when you thought this was veering off topic I think I've rescued it. I've heard this track a lot over the last fortnight. Love the backing track and it's just dawned on me it sounds very similar to that weird synthesizer noise at the start and end of Joy Division's "These Days" that I've always loved. Years ahead, yet again.
