Name the TV appearances?! — Forum Archive

I've been going through some old videos and being the sad person I am, trying to catalogue them a bit more accurately. Some I have a little information on, others hardly any. Can anyone help?

These are what I'm trying to clarify:

Ceremony / Hurt (described as Cramp) / Age of Consent / Blue Monday - on screen shows as Estoc de Pop. Sounds Portuguese perhaps?

The Whistle Test live performances of As it is and Sunrise - obviously Hacienda, when they did an early show for the telly and a late one - anyone know the date?

Crystal / Regret / LWTUA etc on Later; State of Nation and Broken Promise on The Tube; Regret on TFI Friday; Temptation 98 for Commonwealth Games; a bunch of Movement era songs on Granada Celebration; EGG on Riverside; the original Blue Monday on TOTP which was pretty awful - dates of recording?

Temptation and Chosen Time on a Michael Appleton produced programme (probably BBC2) in 1982 - with a wierd end sequence with a woman looking she's setting light to herself in a pool of petrol?

An interview in Dutch with Steve showing how drum machines work and then a performance of Blue Monday?

The Happy One - was that on Other Side of Midnight?

Thieves Like Us - DJ South I think?

Dream Attack / Vanishing Point / Run / Round & Round on the Roxy?

Regret performed (according to the backdrop) on Countdown?

A film about the making of Ruined In A Day - think it was on one of the pop programmes that BBC2 used to have on Sunday mornings. Ditto for an Other Two interview with holiday videos (and there can't be many of THEM!), an interview with the band walking in the hills around Macclesfield, and an interview just after the Apollo Manchester gig in July 98 when Hooky gets a call on his mobile and they end the interview there.

Finally Factory All Stars at the Hacienda. I've got four songs - first could be called Boogie Nights (can anyone confirm), others are Shack Up, Confusion, and LWTUA. And who WERE the Factory All Stars anyway?? (aside from obvious ones).

Yes, I am very sad. I will go back to trainspotting.

Off the top of me head. Age of Consent and Blue Monday were on Channel 4's Switch, weren't they? Didnt' know about a Portuguese show with them on?

Hacienda was 3.12.85. A Tuesday. Advertised in the NME as 'the gig you've all been waiting for' with no mention of the band name!

Later was October 2001. Think it was recorded the Tuesday after the last Brixton date, then broadcast on the Friday.

The tube was March 86, the Friday before Oxford, Brighton, Poole gigs.

Happy One was indeed OSM.

Vanishing Point, etc, was Big World Cafe. I've got a ticket somewhere, though didn't go. It was a Tuesday in March 89.

Regret was on Countdown? :eek3:

Ruined In A Day doc was indeed on Sunday morning BBC2 TV - can't remember show though?

Walking through the Macc hills - is this the one with Fine Time playing over Hooky and Ryder in the Hac? - this was actually an evening show on BBC2 called Rapido, I think?

Blue Monday on TOTP was when it charted first time around, so probs April 83.

Oh, and Regret on TFI (they did Isolation too, not sure if it's been broadcast ever?) was November 98. Look closely for Jonathan Scott and ATR, amongst others, all shaking their booties down the front! Best one is Jon Mawhinney bouncing around like he's on springs.

It wasn't THAT Countdown by the way - no sign of Richard Whiteley!

That Estoc de Pop (anyone know what Estoc means?!) does look from Portugal, but then I'm no expert!

(According to Google, estoc is an enlarged version of a short sword - huh?)

some good stuff there over the years..

al,..didnt they stay on and play more than 2 songs when they appeared on the tube ???..do you know anyone that attended.?

never realised they played isolation on tfi..

the hacienda early and late shows, i was lucky enough to be there...and is marked off as my best n.o day ever

No, believe me. "Estoc" is not even a portuguese word! Maybe it's a brazilian show?

Come to think of it... There's no "estoc" in our language, but the brazilians use the slang "estoque", wich means "stock". So "estoque de pop" could mean "stock of pop music"...

I did some research on Google and discovered that "Estoc de Pop" was a Spanish TV show.

By the way, "estoque" is not a slang, it's a proper word and in the dictionary. :read:

Last week I bought an original Channel 4 in-house video of the TFI Friday appearance. Isolation was played as the soundcheck. Haven't watched the thing yet, but the seller sent me a CDr of the appearance too. He's included the soundcheck on both, so if Shug reads this, perhaps he'd like to borrow the tape for copying...? :nod:

I'm not that bad Al, I recognise Barney (and Don Johnson for that matter!). So was Gillian. Was that really Simon Topping? Right scrawny bloke it was, I'm sure Topping doesn't look like that on the cover of Flight.

Correct. Recorded on 16/10/2001 & b/c on 19/10/2001.

Correct, Ceasar of The Wake sang lead vocal on LWTUA and didn't he look and sound out of place.

Bollocks - memory has come back, which is why this is edited, I am sure on the Estoc de pop I have also contains Lonesome Tonight which was a snippet from Play At Home recorded in the Hac!

Yeah, mine's got kind of documentary containing some of the 'Play At Home' songs, Martin Hannett with his gun from the same programme, some JD photos and the video for 'The Perfect Kiss' before the 4 songs from Studio 54.
