anyone fancy opening up a slavic forum? i know the languages are quite different but we can translate. my russian's relatively crap but i can get by with most slavic languages (polish is a bit of a bitch, but there must be polish members here who want to contribute). are there enough members who are interested? maya, texas bloke with the numbers and bars, julijana (spelling?), etc. can help out....
we've got a japanese forum now, why not try a slavic forum?
just a thought....
The more New Order fans from other country's, who's first language is not english, that get involved with this site the better. Good idea.

Well, the basis of slavic languages are the same, however finer details, figures of speech and such would be impossible. I could imagine some people being turned off by being bunched into one forum. The problem isn't that people can't speak other languages - you'll find that most New Order fans in slavic countries are well educated - but the forums overall are too quick, there are too many injokes, it discourages quite a few people from posting. I remember a Japanese poster being mocked for spelling errors a while ago too, people are afraid of giving a bad impression. Also don't forget, several of the countries you're refering to don't like each other, if you opened a "my former state" forum people would actually take it as an insult. Very touchy here.

Another forum? Well, I'm not sure it would attract a lot of people.. check the member directory, it's pretty empty in those countries...

i see your point, but if people mentioned in their thread title in what language they were writing, perhaps it might work better. the reason i suggested a 'slavic' forum is that it might attract more posters than just a russian forum, a polish forum, a serbian forum, etc. since, as nic wrote, there aren't a lot of NOOLers from this region. if there were ground rules set about proper etiquette (keep politics out, or at least civil; respect the fact that others can't understand others' figures of speech; etc.), perhaps it might work?
any suggestions?
Maybe you should get all your Slavic mates to email Spotty - if it's more than 10 registered Slavic NOOLers maybe he'll consider it a go-er...
(This is what I advised when someone suggested a gay forum - would be a good idea if enough were interested - not sure if other NOOLers are that tolerant though...)
My girl doesn't even post on these forums although she is registered and speaks perfectly good English.
At least we have had a Zagreb Order meet up!
There are about 40 registered people from these areas but they mostly seem not to post which is a pity.

If there's sufficient demand then it could be a winner. I would hope that it didn't mean we lost the company of the likes of Maya and Julijana to a Slavic forum though at the expense of the main boards, as that would be a real shame.

I got a firewall at work, and now i use the computers at my faculty, since I've left work to study languages. I'm actually a hidden hippie, so I don't have a computer at home ! Nor a mobile. Nor a car. But I have a bicycle, a cuddly yellow dog and I grow vegetables in my garden. And I've taken Barney's advice and spent a lot of time this spring underneath trees. There is one particular tree in front of the faculty that I really like, it's actually more of a bush, hides drunks from view. That was my point actually, unless you really have a lot of time to spend at a computer you'll have hard time following the forum, you'll feel lost, and you won't post. An open, calmer board for all the remaining languages perhaps ? You still have the Ugro - Finish language group, Romanian is a Romanic language, Baltic states use different languages, and the Greek contingent is quite strong too. And Dutch and Flemish, and I could go on and on. And let Maya moderate it anyway.
We can always try like I did with the japanese forum...
I'd need the translation of Digital Republic & description to do that.
But if it's as active as the swedish forum, we'll cut it ;) but anyways, I doubt international forums take too much attention from the others.. usually some people who can't post in english go there... check the portuguese and spanish ones, there are plenty of members we never see elsewhere.
Anyways, it's up to you... if you are willing to be +5 points in your NO love ranking

It's "Digitalna Republika" in both Serbian and Croatian language. As for the other slavic languages, I'm not so sure.

in russian it's "Цифровая Республика" (tsifrovaya respublika). it's probably something very similar in ukrainian and bulgarian, as well. maybe have both names?
Hello, I'm posting, so that the forum stays alive and Maya keeps her moderating powers ! Just an idea, could someone mail users from slavic countries to tell them that this forum is open ? I'll be leaving for Hungary (hungarian is NOT a slavic language BTW) for about a week in a few days time, and I won't be able to use a computer too often (actually there appears to be internet in the hostel I've found, but I'm hoping not to be able to use it :D ), so don't worry if you don't see me here for a while.

Those are very similar languages. There are some differences, of course, for example like in British and American English. I'd say that the major difference is probably our accent.

They are diffrent languages,although alike,and we can understand each other easily,probably becuse we used to livein the same country. But evey Croat will tell you thet they are two different languages,grammatical rueles differ,and parts of the vocabulary as well.
and croatian is written in the latin alphabet, while serbian is written in cyrillic, correct?

Both alphabets are equally used in Serbia and Montenegro. This is due to history as one part of population was under the influence of Austria-Hungary and the other part was under the influence of the Byzantine Empire, while the Croatians use the Latin alphabet only.
