let's start some new topics here!

lots of serbo-croatian and a bit of russian. but we need to catch up with the japanese forum!

I'd contribute, but when it comes down to it I probably only have a vocab of about 20 words in polish, check, russian, and croatian.

No way, Jean! I've been so impressed by your language abilities! You speak French, Russian, Slovenian, Czech, Slovak, GERMAN and English!!!

I've always admired the idea of blending European cultures in the creating processes, like it was in the first half of the century (Bauhaus, Dada, Prague etc...).

there is a lot of Yougoslavian people...

So, they will teach us how to speak about New Order in Serbian (with cyrillics for Ian) latin polices with Croatian and Slovenian. You can teach us how to in Russian... Let's find a teacher for Polish.

With all these languages, we could beat the Japaneses... and the Swedes after that... and so on and so on...

let me see its the afternoon here but I'll give it a go excuse the spellings. in no partcular order: da, niet, roboto, katofel (but that is really german), vodka (means little water), I know what the GUM is or was. Union Socialst Soviet Rpublic, slivovic. I think i can get a bier.

i noticed that many south slavic surnames end in wich, check ones well in check, and polish ones are really long with lots of zs in them often ending in an i or an o.

I know i know more, but its late in the afternoon here.

GREAT!! I think you shouldn't have problems contributing this forum, Ronald!! you know a few "key" words: da, nyet, slivovic btw, have you ever tried slivovic and, if so, did you like it?

GREAT!! I think you shouldn't have problems contributing this forum, Ronald!! you know a few "key" words: da, nyet, slivovic btw, have you ever tried slivovic and, if so, did you like it?

neither: my parents are from Serbia. I've got a few Slovenian and Croatian friends, though.

You could say it's my professional obsession to like every language in the world:)

you would have enjoyed that building site i was on one summer. the serbian plasters were regularly swearing at the slovenian owner builder in serbian. of course he understood exactly what they said. but this is australia and it didn't come to blows and everybody got on with the job well eventually.

I'm not surprised. I could only say there are good/bad ppl everywhere, or rather, there are no good/bad ppl, there is just a good/bad treatment we, the ppl, get.

I have a very good friend and colleague from Slovenia (similar generation as my husband and myself) and he, for the start feels quite nostalgic about certain Yugoslavian bands that used to be around. It's the same for us.

I could only feel gutted for every f' president, like the one we in Serbia used to have, who are just 'grabbing hands' for themselves and who fuck up ppl lives for their own pleasures.

On the other hand, as Ian Curtis would put it, we all come from the same room: womb. Thus, I have to live my life just like everybody else does. We are in THIS together.

Guys, speak Slavic, dammit! :D

I didn't say that they didn't hate each other.

I have big promblens with readung Cyrillic. Other than that I can usually get some idea of what is going on.

I wasn't insinuating anything, just stating what happened. As I said everybody did get on with the job, and left it at that. They were old generation migrants who brought the experiences of their homeland with them. This being Australia however people learn to work and live with each other.

I don't keep pointing this out. This is the first time I mentioned this incident. Please don't misinterpert what I write.
