Do you know a slavic cover of New Order ?

There is a Czech band called Wanastowi Vjeci. They made a cover of Dreams never end, but the lyrics are totally different...

An interesting issue. Yet I never happened to hear anything of the kind. I heard a Russian cover of a Cure song.

I don't blame them, surely would be a complete disaster if they simply translated the lyrics (wouldn't make much difference to me anyway as I know shit in Czech). Not that I've ever heard of the band you're talkin about. Anyways, there's not been any cover of a JD/NO song in Serbia so far, thank God for that, I'm quite sure I wouldn't like the idea.

Hm, I'm slightly curious if this is all about language. Where I come from, singing in English is considered somewhat offensive by some. (I guess many ex-communist countries, Slavic or not, have this problem with nationalism.) So, what is this thread about? A NO cover sung in a Slavic language, or a Slavic band covering NO even in English?

Then, if the latter is the case, I do know of such a band. We - the paperbax - are a Slavic band and we've done a couple of NO covers but we've been singing them in English - just as we do our own songs. We don't do songs in any other language.

Personally, I think translating lyrics - especially NO lyrics - would require an incredible lot of talent. People who do not speak the language might be fascinated but NO fans who speak the language would most probably be terribly annoyed.

Yes we would love to have a go at Community 2. To be honest, this is the reason I became a member - not that I wasn't a frequent visitor before. NOOL is the first online community I've become a member of - there's nothing I regret though:) I hope this does not piss people off - new members signing in just to take part in C2. So far I've only been reading other people's postings and it feels like home.

As of which song - so far we've done True Faith and Temptation but neither of these worked wonders. Besides, they are both banned, so we are considering another song. We are still discussing which one it should be - I'd love to do something off Technique, while the others seem to prefer earlier stuff more.

Unfortunately at the moment you cannot hear any of our NO covers as we don't have them recorded, and we don't do them live any more. But hopefully we'll quickly manage to decide upon a song, rehearse it, record it, and send it to NOOL just in time for Community 2:))

Just announcing - I already posted this in the Community 2 forum but anyway - we decided upon a song for the contest and are now recording it. So you'll hopefully get to hear a Slavic band covering NO, although in English. In case you are curious, our choice is Dream Attack.

Thanks - to both AgentWood and JW. We should be ready to submit next week:) Hopefully we'll be the only act covering Dream Attack - right now this is all I'm worried about. At our pace of work, we won't be able to offer an alternative.

Awesome, Dream Attack is my favorite song from that album.

i just saw your location. i once spent 2 weeks in Albena on the black sea. back in the olden days, when there was ony one kind of cola or ice cream in your country.

It's a small world, isn't it? This brings back a hell of a lot of childhood memories. We were almost a soviet state back then and needless to say everyone hated it. Nevertheless, nowadays many people feel nostalgic about it:) We even have a song dedicated to that nostalgia - check out our website www.thepaperbax.com and twiddle with the mp3 player until it starts playing a track called 'east of utopia'. (it plays tracks at random but they're not so m,any so you should score quite quickly)

Sorry to hear the authorities were rude to you. But I'm not surprised at all, tell you this. I don't want to sound unfaithful to my country but they are often rude even now. The difference is that back then they used to at least preserve the order and keep crime under control (which was fairly easy, as with any totalitarian country) whereas now they are just a bunch of useless parasites. They are laughing stocks. I get about five times a bigger salary than a policeman and I am not even in management or anything. Hence all the corruption and the whole inadequacy of the police in Bulgaria nowadays. I must give them one credit though - nowadays they are much friendlier to tourists from the West. Back then it was simply their job to be rude to folks like you and to not allow "embarrassing" footage to leave the country. Now we have corporate paranoia, back then it was state paranoia.

well no harm done, we got that camera back eventually. ah them were the days. actually all the locals were very friendly. in our hotel we had a guy who traveled there to meet his brother from east germany there. where did the brother socialists stay? In little huts out of the way.

fond memories of seeing endless rows of harvesters on the tv. actually i do also remember seeing lolek an bolek on tv there.

that was a grat holiday. i have great memories of Bulgaria. on that holiday we also had a short trip down to istanbul for three day.

All is well that ends well:)
