SONG REVIEW: Security (Remix Edit) (The Beat Club feat. Bernard Sumner) — Forum Archive

The Beat Club were an (American?) electro band that released an album around about the early nineties which featured input from Barney Sumner. The UK single "Security" was released on the Robs Records label (also home to Sub Sub who became Doves) run by the late, great New Order manager Rob Gretton. It's a funky synth-pop song of the era, sounds dated these days but taken in the period it was created it's really very good.

Favourite bit: Barney didn't actually feature in the album version of Security (See the LP "Paris") but the Remix featured on the Robs Records CD single does have him contributing vocals and providing his own unique mix. His vocals and the synth "fades" sound really cool, it's overall a great example of intelligent synth without getting too repetitive or boring. Worst bit: none really, although it sounds dated now. Overall 8/10, a nice find for New Order fans who are fond of the band's synthy edge.

American users who may not have the CD single, feel free to comment on the original "Security" album version or the "Mancunian Raggae Dub" that features on most "Paris" CDs.

Excellent track. Haven't got a clue which version I have, it's on one of Shug's compilations, but it sure swings.

hi, speaking of security, may i ask the lyrics of it?

i've tried to hear it out like a thousand of times but still i can't figure out what the female voice says...

this is what i got so far:

I've listen to that song so long ago, but don't have it anymore. Anyone know where I can find it? I've tried LimeWire but can't find it. And what band is the song credited to?

I love it, yeah it sounds slightly dated, but what's the sound of now - the Artic Monkeys, The Futureheads???

I love Barney's vocals, and his extra riffs make this a fantastic Italo-Miami house classic.

DJ LALA (local talent from Orlando FL), he did a pretty kicking mix of it back in 1996. He had it playing on 2 turn-tables with a delay between the two...then kept scratching it in with "Extacy...Seduction...Drugs" during the song letting it fade out eventually into just the song itself playing a single version of the album.

If anyone is interested in hearing it I would be happy to provide them with my AOL ID and send the song to them, it's a 15 minute long mix as it has 3 others songs along with it (1: I got the toke off a toker, I got to toke off the bong, 2) Security 3) Feeling Fever...? Never could find out for sure who this song was from but I like it.
