Hey all,

I remember that before Twisted Tenderness came out, some MP3s leaked and Make it Happen had some samples in it that were removed from the final version.

i'm wondering which UK promo has the samples intact? is it CDLRL008?

can any one describe the promo that has the samples? and was there anything else changed from the final version? thanks!

It's the advanced promo, not the promo.

I know, I bought the damned promo (blue one) and it doesn't feature the sample :(

well, they're all advanced promos if they come out before the album. :) but how can you tell which one it is?

this one is blue and is the "advanced listening CD," which is probably the one you have right?

what does the one that we're looking for look like? sleeve? slimline case?

someone has to have this..

Well I have it... now ;) Funnily enough that item was on my eBay watch list before it was mentioned on this thread as I'm in the process of plugging gaps in my Electronic collection. I was surprised nobody else was interested in placing a bid on it; one bid at £3.00 is a bargain.. very chuffed!

As for the Make It Happen version with the Ice-T samples... yeah I've got it. I first acquired it in MP3 format in 1999 when the webmaster of one of the original New Order web sites that is sadly no longer with us (the site that is) published the entire blue promo (above) in MP3 format for a select few to download. I remember faithfully downloading every track at 2am with my trusty 56k connection  new material is always worth a good night's sleep and in those days you never knew how long it would stay online. Anyway, the Ice-T "This is not a pop album" was definitely among the MP3s I downloaded. I remember being disappointed the samples were hacked out of the finished LP version because they really added a modern edge to the track, it seemed less effective without them :(

Anyway, a few years later I acquired a new CD in a second hand record shop in London for a few quid... It was the four track Twisted Tenderness "sampler" and contained Vivid, Make It Happen, Prodigal Son and Flicker. I was overjoyed to discover this sampler contained the original version of Make It Happen with the Ice-T samples intact! The CD catalogue number is TWISTEDJ01 and the cover is identical to the UK Twisted Tenderness except with just four tracks listed and For promotional purposes only, not for resale underneath the tracklisting and in a white cardboard sleeve. The other tracks on the sampler are identical to the finished TT release. Here are the respective timings for these different versions of MIH:

Make It Happen (Final album cut) - 7:39Make It Happen (Sampler version) - 7:51

I will talk to Spotnick about maybe releasing this particular version of "Make It Happen" as an MP3 download and a Music for pleasure forum exclusive ;) It's been a fair old while now since Electronic released anything and Parlophone will hardly be interested in our little forum or even care... Not making any promises but watch this space! ;) Will also get my scanner going again and do some scans of the sampler/disc for this thread.

Ally.

I also downloaded that version from the site in 1999 with the ICE-T samples in, and then a few years later I had my PC stolen, complete with a HD worth of N.O and side project rarities. GUTTED!!!

What ever happened to those early sites (before Temptation which has become neworderonline.com) such as Music For Pleasure? I remember downloading Electronic Ecstacy and some remixes at that time.

ah those were the days!

damn i emailed a guy about that sampler and looking back at my emails, he even told me it was 7.48 long.. argh!

well now i know for next time.

so there is no full-length advanced CD with the samples in it - it's just the TWISTEDJ01 4-track sampler right?

Cool Ally! I hope Nic lets you release it as an mp3 for the unfortunate ones who haven't heard it. Myself included!

Just checked my blue one (advancelistening CD, CDLRL 005) and it definitely HAS the aforementioned samples. The timing is 7:48.

The whole production of this track sounds quite different to the final album version, now that I listen to it.

att. Lament - this is a full length advanced CD, it comes in a custom blue Parlophone cover, slimline, incl. 12 tracks unlike the standard release. King For A Day is the extra track and it comes before Flicker.

I have the pre-release version (from napster circa early 2001; my time is 7:50), but it sounds no different to my ears other than the samples, which open the song and pop in later - Much better with the samples, though. I heard Ice-T refused to let them sample him, which is why it was pulled. A bizarre stance for a rapper....

Yup, more info on the discogs page here

The following do have the Ice-T samples:
