Someone has asked me if I know of a recording of Electronic in support of Depeche Mode in 1989. No exact date given. According to this site's live dates Electronic never played in 1989.... can anyone enlighten me?

Think it was in 1990 - more info here.

Pretty good website that, btw! :thumb:

Oh, btw, the link to the introductory audio on that page is, in fact, The KLF's "Last Train To Trancentral" :)

That website's by a lad called Max - who posts on here. It's a great wee site

Definitely no Electronic gigs in 89 Geri. Dodgers stadium supporting Depish was their first outing 5th August 1990.

4th August. ;) They played there for two nights in a row.

Ok, that's enough anal retentiveness for this month. :evil4:

Thanks to Nick King and Shug for the compliments. :) I wondered why I was getting a lot of hits from NOO... And I'll use that bit of info and thank you for it too if you don't mind, Nick.

From Q magazine, July 1991:

Have either of Electronic ever performed on acid?

“Yeah,” says Sumner. “A long time ago. Once or twice. Not completely obliterated but just a bit out of it.”

“I have,” declares Marr. “Electronic’s second gig at Dodger Stadium. It was… fabulous.”

So there you have it. Speaking of the Dodger Stadium gigs I just found out Depeche Mode's 4-8-90 set was filmed (albeit a bit crudely) so perhaps some of Electronic's was too...

I think they've shown clips of that DM film on the DM official website at times over the last couple of years. If I remember correctly, they claim to have stumbled across the tapes discarded in a box somewhere in the Mute office.

I'd still love to see a proper recording from the Violator tour make the rounds.

I forgot they had played two nights in a row.....my bootleg is from the second night then

And no worries Max, one of these days I'll dig out that review I did for CITP :thumb:

Thanks guys for helping out Gerry - it was my mistake in the first place that put it down as 1989 whoops! Tis a great gig though.

I recorded the second night at Dodger Stadium. That was such a fantastic show!

You did a pretty good job, especially when compared to who recorded the first night. :thumb:

Well, to be fair, there wasn't a lot of accessible knowledge on the subject of taping at the time. The internet wasn't around for people to share tips and equipment recommendations so I just got lucky because I had a little experience recording previous shows.

Plus, security was surprisingly tight at that show. It's one of the few times where I swore security actually touched my recorder during the patdown but they pushed me along with the rest of the line. I'm sure some recorders were found by them though.

Hopefully, everyone who has my recording has the version that was seeded on STG a year or so ago because there are far worse copies floating around. I'll probably retransfer it and post in on Dime a Dozen in December. I've got a new soundcard which might improve things a tad.
