Given the excellent "worldinmotion.net" is such a good reference source I'm not sure if I'm been sold a dud. I bought a US Promo CD of Feel Every Beat from someone on EBAY who has subsequently proved to be most unreliable. Frankly I didn't think I'd get anything from him given the feedback left by others. BUT in fairness I have received a parcel today. In it is a cd purporting to be this promo. First things first the sleeve. It is a card only sleeve in a gatefold front panel and has none of the artwork on the eventual release. Instead, it is a 'special edition' of what I suspect is a generic record company sleeve with no clue as to which Record company. The image on the front is a head in profile with some sort of "S&M" style headgear with the persons tounge pointing out! On the inside panel the title and tracklisting are printed in a very functional font. The text reads "RADIO BROADCASTING PROMO ONLY" below "ELECTRONIC - Feel Every Beat US 1991 RARE PROMO CD" and then the tracks. The tracklisting is the same as US CD single from the site below (so 7 tracks). The CD itself is black with the following text in cut outs revealing the silver below: PROMO ONLY Radio 1 Hannoever, Germany PR0-4152105 LIMITED EDITION PROMO CD Private use only not for resale. Around the rim it has the normal licensing bumpf. No where on the cd itself does it mention artist or track.

I have listened to the cd and it sounds good to me. Anyway I just wondered what the collective wisdom of the forum was on this.

But to be honest it sounds like you've been 'had' :( No shame in that of course because some of these eBay fraudsters can be extremely convincing. The description you're reeling off sounds identical to a Promo CD I went for on eBay about a year ago. I bought this New Order 'Someone Like You' Promo CD thinking I was finally getting the vinyl only mixes on CD but it turned out to be a big fat con.

None of the details provided matched any CD/CD-Rs in the discographies of New Order sites and the disc information included Hanover, Germany etc. generic information as you mention. I reported the bugger to eBay and the listing was removed. I never paid and got a stroppy reply from the seller saying "I thought you were up for good music" or something similar in choppy English :laugh:

The bootleg culture on eBay at the moment sucks because dodgy sellers will give the impression their items are genuine when they're just tacky boots with a Photoshop sleeve. I don't so much mind auctions which clearly state they're not dealing in originals but they should be limited to very cheap Buy It Now!s and not auctions allowed to end in bidding wars for which is at the end of the day a 5 pence CDR copy.

'Fraid it is definitely a bootleg - anything which says "RADIO BROADCASTING ONLY" or "GERMAN RADIO ONE PROMO" or "NOT A COPY!" is a CDR sent from Eastern Europe (despite what the seller's location might say)...

There are also similar auctions for "Krafty", "Jetstream" and the "808 State vs New Order" 'promo' CD's...

Thanks Al and Nick - yep seem to have been done on this. Curious only in that they have gone to a fair degree of trouble with this one and it is quite an obscure record. I mean there are not floods of them. But I suppose there is no limit to there 'sneekiness'. Fortunately I already have all the mixes etc on the black stuff which is the repository of my collection so I was merely augmenting. C'est la vie.

Nick, I only live up the road (if you can call the A1 a "road") in Baldock, maybe we could sort out lifts in the future to the whole series of gigs next year: he says hopefully ;)

It probably wouldn't have 'rare' stamped on it if it was a promo copy. They wouldn't bother.

Spelling of Hannover is wrong, it's as I spelt it, that is where half my family come from so I'd like to think I know that much. It wouldn't say Limited Edition Promo CD on the disc, just Promo CD. Also would say promotional use only not for resale, not private use. Ebay? Report them, it's a fraud.
