Electronic Best Of?

This is either a spontaneous decision by Parlophone/EMI or somebody close to the band has been monitoring our little "Who would buy an Electronic best of?" thread. Probably doubtful it's down to us but you never know! 
There have been rumours/tracklistings of Electronic Best Of's in the past, notably a Japanese one, but there was nothing new on it and nothing ever materialised.
I think it's Clear Productions (Johnny Marr's company/studio) who owns the copyrights on Electronic's back catalogue so I assume they can choose which record label they want doing this. With Parlophone/EMI having cancelled the Late At Night single in '99 (even though copies were pressed!) and Electronic's inactivity over the past 6 years they may have dropped them from their roster completely.
I hope this Best Of has something new on it otherwise I'll be pretty Disappointed (getting my coat 
). Having remastered versions of a good selection of Electronic tracks over 2 CDs would be nice but they really should collaborate with Barney and Johnny and come out with something new for us. Either that or raid the vaults for demo versions and alternate mixes!
these record companies have been "getting away with it" for years, not promoting the band enough and respecting the band and the fans, lets hope they "get the message" and release a cracking set, else we'll all be "disappointed". Ah, the debut album, that was "some distant memory". "try all you want" but the other two albums weren't as good.

Mate, that was as truly woeful as the time I managed to get 7 tracks from Republic into a 'love letter' to my girlfriend whilst at Uni!
My one concern is that they would enjoy collaborating again too much and all do their side projects again...
hmm, now while i do obviously love N.O. and all their lyrics, I'd never consider using them in a letter to anyone, pretty cheesy yeah?
lol. did she know the words in your letter were from N.O.? if no then thats even worse, its like blatantly taking the piss. LOL

In a Q&A on Jmarr.com I asked about the Free Will sample, an alternate take of A NEW RELIGION (the acoustic one heard on the Prozac prog) and of course, about a Best Of. This is what he came back with: "There are some interesting points here. I can't remember off the top of my head what that sample is but I'll try and work it out if I get a chance. I don't know whether we ever put down a real version of "A New Religion" with that rhythm track except for "that program". Funnily enough, the Best Of Electronic album was always going to be called "Light Of Day". We'll look out for some ways to make it a bit interesting if the label let us.
So- even if my request for an alternate take on A NEW RELIGION seems unlikely, let's hope there are others that can be dug out, as per Alistair's request. And in terms of who will be releasing it, his comment about 'the label' would indicate that complete control of the project would be an issue. Fingers crossed though...

Yeah, she did work in out as that's all I ever played in '93 and I underlined the songs to give her a clue. I 'think' it made her laugh....

I see the Pet Shop Boys have a new album out on 17th April. A bit of pre-release advertising for Neil Tennant as well perhaps? Is Johnny Marr doing any Electronic stuff at the MancVCancer gig?

There is nothing on their site and this is because there is crucially nothing on their release schedule with regards to an Electronic release, as revealed to me by a friend's contact at EMI. He had heard absolutely nothing about any plans or activity to do with the band and I would have hoped he would have at this stage. The HMV link meant nothing to him either so I very much doubt a product will appear on their release date. Looking on the bright side, it might mean we could still be in with a shout for 2 discs...if and when it actually happens etc.
Rest assured, said contact is on the case and will alert/wake me if there are any developments.
All this confusion underlines how cool Shugz's DVD project is - as we already know, this once again just shows how you certainly can't expect any pleasant surprises from the record company (or the musicians for that matter), hence people taking matters into their own (more competent) hands to sort it out as it should be done.
