Just a couple of weeks after locating Super Highways for $6, I found some guy on Amazon selling Monaco for $20. It arrived today and I'm listeng to it now. This completes my collection of side project albums.:D

What do you think?
I think it's a bit overblown in parts, too Embrace-esque. Still, for me "It's a Boy" is an absolute gem.
That's my favorite track too. It's alright...there are some parts that sound like they're on some kind of 60's psychedelic kick, but other than that it's a pretty solid album.

Quite agree. I think the pinnacle of Monaco's efforts was "Tender". A sublime piece of music; an etheral, restrained ghostly gallop across a rock landscape.

Ironic you'd select that one as "the pinnacle of Monaco's efforts" as Tender was originally a Revenge effort! :D Hooky and Pottsy used to play it regularly enough at the final Revenge gigs around 1992/93 so it had definitely been around for a while before MFP. I think it was a survivor of the Gun World Porn 1992 sessions but didn't make the final cut of the EP.
Cracking tune though, stands up well even next to some of the more established New Order songs and without much effort either
As for the thread, I much prefer Music For Pleasure to Monaco 
Monaco was alright and has a few of strong tracks (A Life Apart, Kashmere, End Of The World etc.) but MFP is one of those albums I can listen to all the way through without reaching for the next button.
See-saw is cheesy as fcuk as well, can't listen to it without wincing :(
Coincidentally I've been listening to "Tender" a lot for the past couple of days. It reminds me of something that happened this weekend...:)

I just about prefer Monaco to MFP...
I dunno...Monaco is taking a little bit longer to get into. So now that I have all the side project albums, the next order of business is tracking down those pesky singles.
I hated Monaco when i first bought it but over the next few months it really grew on me. Give it chance.
i actually now prefer it in whole to MFP (although i agree about See Saw), i think its less dated and it sounds less lik New Order which with hindsight is MFP's failing. i listened to Junk recently and i had to turn it off as its v cheesy now but back then it was one of my favourite tracks...
I think Monaco were the strongest side project and reckon if you were to put together a cd of the best tracks from both albums it would make a great album. The Best of Monaco would be better than the Best of Electronic IMO

Surely you mean that New Order would be the International team - seeing as it's a squad made up of players from club teams Electronic, Monaco/Revenge and TOT

Completely disagree. As much as I love Tender, It's A Boy and Sweet Lips (don't we all) Monaco were not a patch on Electronic, who brought us Getting Away With It (still my fav. song ever), Get the Message, Feel Every Beat, Some Distant Memory, Forbidden City, Second Nature and Flicker, to name a few.
It's just a pity that, in general their Greatest Hits came with the first album.
The 2nd Monaco definitely has its moments and is worth having for Kashmere alone, which is irresistibly catchy and not the only great song. (and what about that Here to stay lyric ...) I do find it more difficult to listen to all the way through than MFP though, MFP is more like a NO album imo, not sure i would tell them apart. On Monaco, there are some kinda "coasting" moments when I think er, where is this going?
Def not as good as MFP,& can very rarely play it all the way through.Strong tracks are A Life Apart,Kashmere,Black Rain,IGAF,End of the World & Marine(that's half that is!),others are a bit of a let down & overblown IMO:\ohwell:

Doubt they could make much of a "proper" Best Of out of 2 albums / 4 singles to be honest.
A similar release to One True Passion v2.0 on an indie label would suit Monaco more; maybe bring together the best of both albums on one disc then put the b-sides/demos on a second. By comparison, Electronic have a fairly meaty back catalogue of about 9 singles plus various promos.
There is a fair amount of rare Monaco stuff kicking around, especially unreleased demos which appeared on the official website a number of years ago.
Might knock up a tracklisting for a 2CD Monaco release, you've got me thinking
I played it about twice when it came out in 2000.
Checked it out again recently and it's still cack.Except for Kashmere.
My favourite track from the Monaco sessions (2000) is Heaven 7, one of the bonus tracks on the I've Got A Feeling cd-maxi. Really brilliant!
By the way, some of the demos are also very nice, haven't listened to them for a long time, but as far as I remember Glass Box is pretty good!
