  • Yay, I enjoy the idea heartily and will support it with my hard-earned lucre. 16 (57%)
  • Yay, but only because I enjoy the dulcet sounds of the faux-Barney. 1 (4%)
  • Yay, but only if they keep playing Age of Consent and Sunrise. 4 (14%)
  • Nay, what's the point? 2 (7%)
  • Nay, I'll stick with Freebass. 2 (7%)
  • Nay, I know for a fact that it won't happen, so I'll point that out like an arrogant twat. 3 (11%)

This is probably not in the works, at least not at present, but I could picture a Monaco reunion (more than a one-off benefit gig) with a tour and perhaps even a new album in the future.

Good idea--yay or nay?

monaco seems like a No tribute band to me now, give us something original like freebass.

Doubt this will happen although it would be brilliant especially with the "New Order are finished" rumours the loudest they've been since 1993 :( Monaco filled the gap quite nicely from '97-'00 in terms of providing a cracking New Order-esque LP and a load of gigs.

However, Pottsy seems to be in a comfortable place with his music at the moment judging from Coming Up For Air and with Hooky mentioning Freebass in nearly every interview it's probably unlikely either would have the time for two bands.

Most importantly, while they're obviously good mates I don't think they're musically on the same sheet of paper these days which was part of the reason Monaco disbanded in the first place. I think Pottsy eventually found the 'New Order sound' which Hooky's bass (understandably) brought to every song a bit restricting. Pottsy's gone in a completely different direction with his solo stuff.

I think there's a good chance we could see an anthology compilation at some point but a full blown reunion i.e. album, tour, promo etc? Very doubtful. The odd one-off gig such as last month's Hard Rock Cafe date might be a more realistic prospect.

As old lead foot said on this very forum "No-one's said yes or no"

If it has to be at the expense of Freebass then 'no'.

But if it's that or nowt then of course I'll try and be there :thumb:

If it happens, then great.

If not, I won't be too worried. An anthology would be good, be a nice companion to the Electronic one.

Rather that than FreeBass. Somehow i have no interest in that whatsoever...

Thats fine, I can stand in. I can play WDYWFM as long as someone else does that intro bit, Shine is easy and Sweet Lips is fine too. As long as no-one asks me what the 5th string is for I'll be fine . . .

We're hoping to do something else this year.

I'll keep you posted if it gets confirmed.

Free Monaco!

Get Pottsy in on lead vocals on Freebass and that's two problems solved!
