Electronic To Reissue Debut Album With Bonus Tracks

Bernard Sumner of Electronic 90′s supergroup Electronic featuring Bernard Sumner of New Order/Joy Division, Johnny Marr of The Smiths and Neil Tennant of Pet Shop Boys is re-releasing their debut self titled album on March 11, 2013 in an expanded and remastered edition, featuring some previously unreleased tracks.

There are some posts on this in the solo projects forums. Quite honestly I can't find much to get excited about here.

An album that was considered classic already upon its release. I don't care, I still love this album and I still play it now and then. What I'm interested is how it will sound in 2013. Original CDs of that time sounded rather flat...

I'm not sure if CD2 is easily listenable, it looks like a hodgepodge of various b-sides and alternative versions that hardly can make an even impression.

Great to see some electronic activity, but a bit random...

Disc 2 covers all electronic periods and really this is the disc 2 we should have had for the best of; a comprehensive collection of all bsides

And wasn't this remastered already in the late 90s?

ALLY, Q for you, (just watched my electronic tv appearances compilation-after hearing this splendid news)...anyway...still dont know who the bassist was when they did that Jo Whilley show late on Ch4 99'. Obviously Jimi G is was not & Ged was still sat on the stool. Was it who played on the T.T album or just a bloke for the tv ???

The one that looks like Craig Cash (Hooky's nemesis - how fitting)?

TT bass was Marr, Sumner, Goodwin and Phil Spalding (and it's not him in the TV performances)

Yeah by Owen Morris November 93 for the Parlaphone 94 rerelease, 'a warm-up for Autumn 94's follow-up (SIC!)'. Couldn't hear the difference myself.

This is one album I dont feel needs any remastering. the production and mixing is top notch and it sounds blimming great on CD (IMO).

And the b-sides and remixes dont excite me either. Ill stick to my original copy thank you very much.

I'd like to get my hands on the alternative versions of TT though, they suggest that there was a TT single planned once.

Well TT was oft referred to as a potential single and as the Net went ballistic there was an unofficial poll to get it out as a single (June 23, http://www.worldinmotion.net/newsroom/1999.htm). Would've worked but... Incidentally in this period all the offshoots suffered a lost CD single - O2's We Can Fly, 'Lec's Late at Night, Monaco's I've Got A Feeling.

Neither could I... Maybe a slightly crisper sound was all, not worth shelling out for twice... and a couple of years later the bargain bins in Woolworths (RIP) were packed with the remastered release.

Releasing each album seperately with each albums associated BSides and demos and remixes and live / TV performance versions would have been the way to go IMO, although this is New Order related stuff, which never goes about things the easy or logical way - All part of the allure in a way I s'pose.

B-sides to I've Got A Feeling are really very good.

absolutely agree! to be honest, I don't see any need to remaster again - the 1994 version is perfect as it is, will wait for the actual bonus tracks whether I will purchase this. As they did simple edits of studio tracks for that annoying best-of, I doubt there will be any early alternative versions.

I'm probably too much of a technophobe or, technically speaking, a twot to pick up any remastering differences, not like a radical remix reworking to my ears. My guess for this 'unreleased' batch of edits is that they're simply that, edited versions of the originals like what they did on One True Passion V 2.0. I can edit myself by switching off the CD and shooting my wad all over Melanie C's pretty, doe-like eyes instead. Still, always nice to have news from the Lec. I'm STILL missing the Until The End Of Time reworkings!

Well, not long after the "Get The Message Best Of" came out (2006/7) they did pretty much do what you suggest:

Electronic (Special Edition) Raise The Pressure (Special Edition) Twisted Tenderness (Special Edition)

These weren't physical releases nor remastered but were good representations of each album's "era" and widely available on digital outlets.

The key difference between the 1994 "grey" reissue of the debut and the original Factory "red" release was the later inclusion of "Getting Away With It" which was not in the original running order. Personally, I thought Owen Morris did a great job with the sound and turned a rather flat sounding early-90s CD into something a bit crisper with better bass. You do notice it more through headphones but each to their own...

I'm looking forward to this new one, I agree the second disc is a bit of a random bunch but literally anything unreleased from Electronic is welcome. I'm hoping the Raise The Pressure "edits" are earlier, less polished mixes so we can hear more of the song-writing and less of the production bells and whistles which ruled that album from start to finish (Sumner/Marr later admitted as much).

I've never owned One True Passion in any shape or form. Pictures look nice on version 1. Version 2.0 would seem to be the obvious choice for the extra tunes. Was thinking of getting it. But what's this business about edited versions? Is there anything that's inferior about version 2.0?

I just saw it listed on amazon jp (as an import---I recall first the CD was supposed to be released in March or something? ) (Look at the first post of the thread). Then the release date was changed to April? What's the reason for the delay? Just because only the tracklists for 1 & 2 are listed (with 2 more months until the release) doesn't necessarily mean it's doubtful. Maybe there really will be a 3 disc edition but the tracklist or content is simply not on amazon yet. Remember, some saw a CD only edition of Lost Sirens available and that turned out to be true.
