Now here's a blast from the past! How's it going Brett?

I liked having a menu at the bottom of each page of posts rather than having to scroll to the top of the page.

What I meant was to have repeated at the bottom of each page the same links that you currently have at the top, for example on this thread it's "Dry 201 Message Pub > Digital Republic > Old Forums vs New Forums." It's just a quicker way of returning to the thread list after you've looked at the latest post.

Well, Maya (is it all right if I call you that?), as I said before, I would never have guessed that English was not your first language. Your spelling, for example, seems to be flawless, and is certainly far better than that of many here who've spoken English since birth.

Good. Glad we've made that clear. I'm still having some problems with my English grammar though. I mean The Past Tense and The Past Perfect Tense sometimes confuse me a lot. But who gives a damn about grammar anyway! So, will I ever be able to MARK again?

I've somewhat forgotten the grammar terminology. Is past perfect something like "I had forgotten"? As for marking, it's in Nic's hands now. Perhaps you should try to exercise some sort of feminine persuasion on him?

Oops! Is there a term called past perfect tense anyway? But yes you got my point. For example: when do I say I FORGOT and when do I say I HAD FORGOTTEN??? But guess what we have some weird grammar rules here too I mean so damn weird I don't even know them and will never try to understand. Marking was just fun you have to admit it. It's not like I really meant every thread deserved 5 stars. But I still owe Mr. Green a great revenge for marking my radio thread as terrible.

don't worry, maya. few native english speakers understand english grammatical rules, either! we just speak it...we don't analyze it (too complicated)!

Used to confuse many people so instead of a new reply to the existing thread they kept on starting a new thread. The old forum was such a mess. :\ohwell:

Unfortunately Serbo-Croat as one language doesn't exist anymore. Those are 2 different languages now sounding pretty much the same. You can compare it to British and American English for example. So, Julijana and me understand each other very well. Btw, in Serbian desk is male and chair is female.

I believe you would say "I had forgotten" when you want to make the point that the forgetting occurred before some other event. For example, "When I arrived at the airport to catch my flight to Australia, I realized I had forgotten to bring my passport."

Even without the stars, I feel confident that there will at some point be an opportunity for revenge.

Uhm, I'm not entirely convinced yet our Maya actually lives in Belgrade, but I'm starting to believe it's not a joke after all... Well, if it's true it's amazing and you must be the daughter of the former ambassador in London or something. Anyway I guess you've lived in England enough to learn English as it's spoken rather than studying it (since you still have doubts about grammar rules) or you're subscribed to quite some English magazines since you were very young, or you've got your radio stuck to BBC World Service, but I don't think the latest two options are enough to make such an excellent English. I mean you make people like Almanso, Nic and me look like total novices to the fookin language! ;) Maybe it's just that I'm used to the other Italians who are even worse than me at English... About the forum, I'm really happy the old one is back, we can use the accounts of the site and I can use IE again with working smilies and everything...

Back on track, I miss the private messages feature, and for some reason I don't understand, I was able to use the email links at the bottom of the threads, and now they don't work (for me).

Also good from the other forum: Rollover mouse popup, post status (top 10, top 25 etc).

Damn right. French is such a pain in the butt. Tried to learn it 5 or 6 years ago but couldn't memorize a single word.

Yeah I think the problem is I grew up speaking Italian, so I never had to really learn it from scratch, while I had huge problems with Latin at school (Ancient Greek is easier!)... that's because Latin languages have a lot of useless rules... Spanish and Rumenian are a different deal, because they weirdly sound much more similar to Italian than French or Latin, so you don't actually learn them, but still you manage to guess something here and there...

Hey Maya, you don't need Italian, you have your excellent English... I thought former Parma goalkeeper Buffon was sexier for girls than Toldo...

I was informed recently that the feminine and masculine 'tricky' element of the French language is something that you either know, or you don't. I wonder if Sprinkler can expand on this theory?

True about the DVDs Mick though I keep trying watching the movies without subtitles, the best way to improve your English.

Oh yes, definitely, but I always miss those few words once in a while and if I read the text I already know what they're saying and I pay more attention to how they say it rather than merely trying to understand what they say, so I guess both methods are good, though not as the "in bed" method... ;)

Not at all, I actually found easy to understand the people of Northern England, maybe because they pronounce some words as us Italians would do, "man", "cup" and similar words are the best examples... I find it hard to follow London cockney because they play with vowels a lot. But Americans... well, I frankly don't like that soft accent... I adore the Scottish hard accent... for example "tomorrroh" :) And of course Jamaicans are very easy to understand because they just speak like Italians. The problem with Americans is they sound like chewing all the words, so they're not that easy... Anyway I'm thinking at stuff I see on TV programs, actually I find actors like Al Pacino have a good accent. But my favourite way to hear English will always be someone from Manchester, Liverpool or Glasgow (Irish people are OK too), or the BBC, they still have a nice way to speak there... much more than the fookin CNN, and don't even mention Fox... ;)

Don't you have language menus on your DVDs? Anyway I have no problem following the subtitles AND the scene, I usually watch the movie and look at the text only if I can't get some word, but I can also follow both, or just have a quick look at the text and then follow the scene...

an alternative way to read is to use a RSS software. The one I tried (free) is not that great: The new threads are in bold but you can't see when an old thread  includes new posts. Anyone use a better software than mine ?
