I take it that's basically down to the potential hideous workload as opposed to any strange beliefs about apache. I can tell this place uses a lot of MS-ie crp, and for a nice change, uses it well.

What time was that stats routine running before....this site seemed to die in the mid morning UK time for a while, yet there never seemed to be anyone around. I take it the server is remote, at an ISP or server farm? If it were at home, you could add a real junker 486 running some crappy floppy linux distro to do the stats? Perhaps the hosting firm can do that crap for you? Unless of course you mean internal things, like the forums ( how many times certain people have posted nasty threads bout BM, that sort of thing).

Come to think of it, if the machine has too little RAM, apache might not be a great thing on it anyway, linux likes ram, lots of it, not wasteful, just fookin greedy.

Surely we can all chuck a few quid together for a better server. When you says "band's help" you mean them right? not bleedin AOL-time-warner. A back hander from Hooky is cool, getting bought out by "da man" aint so hot :)

I don't know... I've read somewhere the ideal text width on a page is 40 to 60%, because if the text lines are as large as the screen they become annoying, the eye gets tired of reading sooner than if changing line more often. Also the text is not very little because it's true that small Arial is ugly as hell, but it's also true it can contain more words in the same space than Verdana. I think the text ratio is about the same as before... also I remember in the old forum the text was about 50% wide too, the difference was just we had the author+avatar column, the text column, and then a white blank column, while now we have the menu column, the author+avatar one and then the text one, though you get two extra columns on higher resolutions...

I've seen the new subscribe icon, but when I click it and I should be subscribed the "unsubscribe" icon does not appear as before, there's still "subscribe" on a page with no messages, so nothing tells me I'm subscribed now... I'm sure you'll fix it.

If that ease your mind, Apache is ALSO installed on the server ;) It's running the PLESK configuration platform.

But you see, I'm doing ASP.NET websites for living, so it's normal, and the reason why I started NOOL was to experiment... the upcoming v2.0 of the .NET FrameWork is full of promises, so it should be interesting...

Like I say my only problem is that I can feel the winlag here when I try and get a page :)

Seriously though.....how much cash do we need for something a bit smarter? couldn't we just send you some spare RAM for now? :) poor NOOL is a victom of it's own success as much as NO have been.
