Just want to know what software NO uses to record/mix with. I had read Stephen and Hooky mention it in a recent interview, but I forgot what it was. :\ohwell: I remember looking it up and it was expensive.
I'd like to get started with my own recordings. Are there any recommendations for a basic, easy to use and not too expensive solution?
(I don't want to have to go out and buy a Mac and use Garage band just to do this btw.. I want to use my existing PC.)

They use Reason, probably just for putting down ideas though.
Dunno if they use Mac or PC but it'll run on either (comes with code for both)
Dead easy to get into.
If you get 'Computer Music' magazine in the US it comes with a free virtual studio software (with every issue) that aint bad for starting with. It has drum boxes, synths, sequencer and effects. If you cant get it, email me and I'll post you a copy.
or.... look at Reason Adapted. It's a cut down cheaper version of Reason that should have all you need to begin with. Then you could upgrade if you get really into it.
They use a lot more sophisticated stuff than Reason! It varies from month to month, they all admit to being techheads when it comes to new gear, particularly Bernard and Steve, who try just about everything out.
Basically there's no point in trying to copy them as a beginner, use whatever is affordable and fit for purpose. The sounds (or at least the use of them that makes them unique) they get come from their heads anyway, not from the software!

I seem to remember in the article mentioned Barney & Phil use Reason on laptops for jotting down stuff on the move.
Makes you wonder what Phil does though

Definitely music comes from the heart, soul and mind and not from the gear, but it sure makes it easier to be able to create with good gear. :) I can't tell you how many times I wished I jotted down an idea or recorded a riff.. It sounds like that's how NO uses Reason. To put those pieces of ideas in to have to play with later.
