A European team always wins when the World Cup is hosted in Europe, and vice verca for South America. As hosts and with their uncanny ability to always be there abouts in the later stages I'll go for the boring Germans. I really hope Im wrong and I think England have a chance. But this debate should wait until qualification really.

Brazil was the only one breaking that rule on Sweden 58. then you´re right about the rest of the WCups.
about qualifying... my bet: Holland will not qualify AGAIN for 2006! ![]()
Based on natural talent alone, Spain should've won a few World Cups by now - but when they get there, it's rabbits in the headlights stuff - or maybe it's just an ancient curse, who knows. Same with the Dutch - amazing talent, but they always fall over the last hurdle.
the winners are usually the same. look:
(1930 Uruguay) Uruguay (1934 Italy) Italy (1938 France) Italy (1950 Brazil) Uruguay (1954 Switzerland) Germany (1958 Sweden) Brazil (1962 Chile) Brazil (1966 England) England (1970 México) Brazil (1974 Germany) Germany (1978 Argentina) Argentina (1982 Spain) Italy (1986 México) Argentina (1990 Italy) Germany (1994 USA) Brazil (1998 France) France (2002 Japan-Korea) Brazil
so usually there aren´t many surprises. if it´s not Brazil, Germany, Italy or Argentina is the local team. no more than that! ![]()

only if Gazza is the Captain!
of the drinking team?
So it's ops normal in South America with the qualifying - Argentina flying through easily and Brazil struggling, probably waiting until the final game to squeeze through

yeah, it´s all "normal" here except for Colombia´s bad performance against Venezuela! i don´t think there will be any problems for Argentina and Brazil to qualify. this time it will be harder to know which others will qualify. Uruguay and Paraguay are hard teams to beat so they have the best chances. and Bolivia always have the 4,000 meters highness of La Paz factor. Colombia started really bad but they have players to get there. and Chile, Peru and Ecuador could fight for the last space if they play REALLY well at home. Venezuela improved a lot but not much to get to a WC yet.
The Aussies will be watching these games closely, because they'll probably end up playing the 5th placed team for a spot in the finals - whoever it is in the end, it's going to be huge - can you imagine if it's Bolivia and within a two week period there'll be one game at sea level in Melbourne and then one at 4000m! The Aussies will have to play with oxygen masks.
not only Aussies. everyone! it´s just extremely difficult to play there (they say). we had luck to tie 3-3 the last time we played there, after loosing 1-3 and hopeless. they´re maybe the only team that can win all their points at home. and that´s 27 points. enough to get to the World Cup, mind! ![]()
