I'd have to say Ian's voice, as it was the first thing that really grabbed my attention the first time I heard them.

Everything. In the case of both JD and NO the whole is usually greater than the sum of the parts!!
I know Hooky stands out because of the way he pushed his bass to the fore as a lead instrument but the four of them definately contributed in equal parts, JD wouldn't have sounded like it if you took any one of them out of the formula. Everything fitted together perfectly like a jigsaw puzzle. Imagine what Love Will Tear Us Apart would sound like without Barney's soaring keyboards?

Of course you know it was Ian who told Hooky to turn up his bass, probably the best piece of advise Ian ever gave him, but i'm sure Ian would be stunned by what Hooky achieved.

There was a live turn up competition cause Barney turned up his guitar too.
Reason : Hooky's bass was too loud 
I like everything in that band, but why is Bernard's solo guitar listed as a choice?? AS I can recall there were 3 or 4 songs with guitar solos in them. Shadowplay being one, Failures and some others......... We can all agree Bernard isn't the best guitarist.

yeh he's not a technical player or a 'soloist' in the traditional rock sense but he did play with impeccably good taste and should be given credit for it...

Certainly not, when heard in South nightclub M/CR after a gig recently, me and our kid had just arrived and we thought well the ales a bit pricey but the dj has got it right , fook it lets make a twat of ourselves on the dancefloor .... and we did, twice. Cos the dj played Saturn 5 by the inspirals a bit later. Then we had a bit of rest in the Press Club
