That i can understand mate, if u dont like the Smiths in the first place, then i guess any cover is ok ;). As for me and the rest who love them, it was nice to see that God himself agrees. Hm...I think the band "The Radio Department" whould make a great cover. They sounds very similiar to New Order, but if I had to choose between these - The White Stripes (some track from Get Ready)

I could actually see Justin Timberlake being good with a rendition of 'Angel Dust' or 'Love Less' - after seeing how amusing his video for that Cry Me A River song was, I think he's got a sense of humor in him that could be interesting to see replayed through one of those NO songs.
