I think the next album will be their last, but they could go on for the rest of their working lives, why not? Other artists have, just as long as they don't get any fatter.

I predict that they will hit a mid-life creative burst and release 3 new albums in the next 5 years, doing a full year's tour after each one.

DREAMS NEVER END ;) I think it'll be their last, plus one more series of gigs before they'll retire gracefully.

I think after this NO album, we'll see two more Electronic albums w/in 3 years, and then there will be a final NO album in 2009, and then they'll call it quits

It's gonna be their last album (if ever released ) but, to our biggest musical enjoyment, London records will release a new Best Of every five years after that...

Touring at 53-54 years old? The horror....the horror....

Probably at least two or three more "best ofs", a remix album by Canadien rappers, and eight or nine rereleases of "Blue Monday", then they'll call it quits by March of next year

It's the last before the definately second last album, amongst of the "terrible best of albums" and maybe (hopefully) some dvd releases.

looking to the future:

• final concert 2006 in manchester
• final album in 2007 (something like "a best of" with a few new tracks)
• some Electronic/Monaco albums
• and then, at least a solo album (hooky is my favorite)

But at least.... i hope they play 'til they'll sit in a wheelchair (or rollchair)".

Seriously, i dont think any of us here would like to see NO become like the Rolling Stones. I think they owed a couple of albums when they suddenly stopped goin in 1993, and the first of them is "Get Ready". In the meantime, a film has been made about them, Gillian has difficulties followin them , so what else should we expect than a final album from them... Time is passin for everyone, includin us, in a while we ll be like the old rockers i used to hate when i started listenin to NO in the 80's: All these ppl who refused to accept that things (and music) are changin :D.

I hope so. All good things must come to an end - I'd hate to see them become a tribute band to their former selves like the Bunnymen have become. They are already in danger of that in a live setting with the set comsisting of greatest hits and JD songs.....

Bunnymen became Ian's solo career,they are not the same without Pete and Les unfortunately.

Still hope listen to some old Joy Division songs like New Dawn fades and Shadowplay performed by New Order

No, at the very least they're release another greatest hits album, or perhaps something similar like The Cure just did (double disc set).

I suspect one more album after this forthcoming one (whenever that may very well be) and that'll do it. Perhaps I'm just being optimistic, though. Even though they are just about done with, I think they still have enough to do one last album after this next one. Only "time will tell". ;)

If it is indeed their last album, I think we should get Electronic or Monaco back! Nice little consolation prize.

hope it's as good as or better than Get Ready, they're getting older (sigh) and I hope they can keep going as long as is reasonably possible, I'd hate to see any of them all wrinkly like Keith Richards on stage, it would be too embarassing! Hey mabye with all this new technology scientists can subject NO to genetic modification and reverse their aging by a decade (or two)

Yes they are all getting on the older side......even Gillian's showing her age these past few years.........I remember a couple of months when I spent some quality time up in my room with some photos from the early New Order, that pictured her....sigh Yeah but in all seriousness I think this will be their last. They are getting old and I think that they would just like to sit on back. I wouldn't be surprised to see some off tracks, and some guest appearences on other albums though.

Even tho I think this will be their last (hopefully not) I think it will be very good, Get Ready was superb and Barney's potentially disasterous and embarrasing duet with Billy Corgan actually turned out to be one of the finer tracks on the album! Bring it on!

Hard to say, but:

Radio sucks so bad that they won't get any airplay. No airplay, no chance of sales, except to their fan base...us.

As somebody pointed out in a different thread, there's going to be a huge die-off of their fan base between 2030 and 2045-ish, and at the rate they release new material, any next album would be coming along about then.

I think their chance for commercial success will depend on the first single and whether it will have an appealing music video. A new album from the Order may get some airplay here in SD by 91X, but that may depend how guitar-y the new album will be. I wonder how much the new album will be marketed and if there would be any chance of some stateside gigs.

Hey Tristan-- Do you mean it'll get airplay if it is guitar-oriented? But no airplay if it is synth-oriented?

I remember the last CD they released didn't get airplay (or at least not enough for me to remember it) here. the morning DJ was a HUGE new Order fan, and he wasn't allowed to play New Order. This was the local "alternative" station. New alternative-- the kind that plays Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, etc. Never New Order, Depeche Mode, The Cure. When Orgy did Blue monday, they played that, but never the original.

Now, that station has gone metal. So there's no chance of hearing New Order here. I could accept an alternative format that brings in new sounds-- Linkin Park, for example-- if they'd also give some airplay to the original "altenative" artists. But the radio here in the States is shite. Pure, unadulterated shite. The only place to here any of the older alternative bands is on the 80's stations-- mixed in amongst Prince, Michael Jackson, and the like.

i think New Order will need to go for artistic, rather than commercial success, here in the States. Modest sales amongst the fans, hopefully backed with some solid touring, and critical accolades. Unless they come out with a huge dance hit for a new generation.

OK, sitting here listening to Blue Monday (1988), and it ocurs to me...for the new album, they could release Blue Monday (2003).

OK, at first, it seemed like a bad joke, but...

What if they did a 2003 mix of Blue Monday with the Chemical Brothers? Would that be so bad? Wouldn't you WANT to hear that? Big club hit, sales go through the roof....

OK, OK, to be a big club hit here, maybe it would have to be some hip-hop shite....but one can dream...
