1. After two minutes, the song becomes a great mix of Hooky's bass and Steve's drums.
2. The first two minutes are too bare and boring, and Barney's voice sounds a little whiny for most of the track.
3. Other than the slow start and Barney, the track is rather enjoyable, especially when the song begins to really pick up after 5 minutes.

2. worst bit: The intro is a little long, but it's good, so...
3. why you love/hate it: I think it's just full of energy. I love it because it's a good car song.

2. Worst Bit: The 2 minute intro is SO FUCKING AWFUL it ALMOST ruins the song. Would anybody really listen to 586 if it consisted solely of the intro?

3. Best Bit: From the fade in of the rest of 586 it is an awseome, awesome dance track. Has anybody ever figured out how musicians who clearly can't dance have made such awesome dance music? Only criticism: perhaps the slowdown at the end was a mistake...

Or, in the words of countless reviewers on American Bandstand, it has a beat and you can dance to it....

3. Why you love/hate it: In this case, it's love, with a bit of hate thrown in. See above.

4. Percentage Rating: 85%...Could've been higher, if not for that awful, awful intro.

definetely an all time classic this one. Love the intro of it, fils u with andicipation of what it might comes next, and when it does, i just cant help lettin myself get lost in it :D . If anybody asked me to describe what NO are about with one song, this would be probablymy choice, all their main elements in this. Also kickin in all its versions . Rating? close to 100 %

1. everything - but Hooky and Stephen are particularly wonderful. the song's overall attitude and tone are just so amazing - the balance in the LP mix between detachment and excitement is amazing.

2. nothing. the song is phenomenal.

3. it has a lot of sentimental value for me, and i think it's just an amazing song (see my answer to number one).

4. 100% - absolutely brilliant. it's probably my favorite New Order song.

i love the intro, as well! since i know the song well, it just builds the anticipation so wonderfully.

1. Best bit: Great lyrics, good ending synth and effects, the Peel Sessions version as well
2. Worst bit: The PCL intro is far too long, put me off the track for a long time
3. Why love/hate? My first non-Blue Monday PCL track I've heard it, still listen to it every once in awhile

1. Best bit. The ahead of its time sheen and the "it's great because it's not quite Blue Monday" slant to it.
2. Worst bit. Nothing really. The intro doesn't upset me as much as it obviously does some people.
3. Why you love it. It's not a favourite, but it's a great track. I like the Peel version best because in my mind it's always coupled with "Too Late" - that 2nd Peel Session is the real missing link between "Movement" and the future and a truly essential NO moment. The full Video 586 version doesn't get many plays in our house though!

Best Bit: The version on the Peel Sessions

Worst Bit: The horrid intro. Am I the only one that lopped it off of my dubbed versions over the years? Also loathe the bass playing in the PCL version.

Love it/Hate it: Has a really nasty, grinding, snarling feel on the Peel Sessions version, I like the vocals on it. Other than the intro and the bass, I like the PCL version too. Really aggressive.

Percentage: Peel Sessions: 90%, PCL: 75%

I love the live version at the Kilburn National Ballroom, Hooky's bass is fantastic on that version.

I love it,even the 22min version on Touch Tone.

I honestly thought my tape was bust when I first heard the intro. I think the 22 minute intro is best described as "interesting".

I'm sure SPtwo does not mean that, whoever heard of a 22 minute intro? (Deep Purple, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd (with Syd Barrett), Fairport Convention, Crosby, Stills & Nash (no Young) etc).

I just voted for this one on the current DR thread , for the encore I'd most like to see at the next gig. I think it's got great potential to be turned (or modernised?) into an epic encore.

Best: "I see danger!" Worst: That it ends. Why?: I love it for the intro!! %: Hmmmm , 101!!!!

1. When the vocals and bass start their interplay. And the keyboard solo at the end.

2. The intro (surprise, surprise) works only as an interlude between "The Village" to "586" proper, otherwise, mweh.

3. Love it if only for the fact that the 1982 live versions and the versions after those have their own distinct appeal to me.

4. 90% on the album, 95% live.

Best bit: "I SEE DANGER, DANGER, DANGER.." those awesome lyrics. "I HEAR SILENCE IN MY HEART!!" Me too, Barney. Damn right!

Worst bit: I listen to this one quite often and almost always skip the shit at the start, I don't really see it as being part of the actual song. But from the hum and the 'Aah' onwards... I'm loving it (as they say at McDonald's).

Why I love it: It's the best version of the whole 'Blue Monday thing' by far so stick that in yer pipe and take a good ole smoke! Better lyrics and much more 'up.' That keyboard solo too!!! The only song that I've ever caught myself playing air keyboard along too. Peel Session one not quite so good but does start much better with a cool bass riff rather than that bloody intro.

Why I love it :

because of the remix Peter Black did with it, a musical diamond, such an hypnotic mantra it could last 30 minutes. It really carries you away. Pure jewel, for sure (100% IMHO)

1. The apocalyptic bass on the live versions, oh and the Peel rendition.

2. The PCL version: horrendous videogame intro and neutered bass.

3. It sounds like a more Movement-esque prototype Blue Monday, like most of PCL. The quintissential track to showcase the hypnotic quality of their PCL-era material(We All Stand, Too Late, Ultraviolence).

4. 70% Album version, 80% Live/Peel
