Really its not. Believe me. There's so much space in that song. Record it in a modern studio with Alsihad and it completely falls apart. The production on that tune is amazing. Trust me on this one.

They are Bernard's lyrics. The band couldn't work out what Ian was singing, so they had a go at matching them. Very few similarities !!!!!

They are very difficult to decypher - I think Jon Salisbury has had a good go at it, but don't know what he came up with.

1. Best bit: It's like nothing else I'd ever heard up to that point
2. Worst bit: Slightly tinny production, but that's a small quibble
3. Why I love it: Every time I hear it now, it reminds me of the first time I ever heard it when I first got into NO. I was like "Oh my God, what the hell is this?"

1. for a guitar-based song, it's surprisingly dancy. Great lyrics, almost entirely by Ian.

Regarding the lyrics: The opening line I usually see as "This is why events unnerve me..." but one lyric website had "You would smile and salute me, if I told a different story." I don't know if it's right or not, but I'm getting to like it.

best bit: simple chords go along way, drowning vocals give it grandness worse bit: i wish it last forever why i love it: cause its perfect simplicity rating: 100%

I never came across this review? Weird that. Just love this to death, helluva way to start their new recording phase. I know it's been mentioned before, but hearing it live (twice) sent a charge through my body that I've rarely felt anywhere. Definitely rate this at 100%

i wish i could know what Ian sang in the still album when the microfone didn't work.. the lyrics sounds diferent.

1. The way Hooky's bass works with Barney's guitar during the refrain. It's absolutely brilliant. But then again, so is everything else about the song.

3. It's one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard, and it's one of the only JD songs with any joy in it - if not the only one.

2. worst bit, the 12" Version with Gillian Gilbert wasn't as long as the original 12" (tho as long as the original 7"), tho epic in its own way. I just wanted more of a good thing!

3. why you love it, because with Temptation back to back you can't get yourself off the ground after being floored for a while.

4. percentage rating - 99.99%, only because Temptation is 100%.

Best: Bernard’s guitar. Ceremony has the definitive guitar sound of Joy Division.

Worst: Bernard’s singing. After you hear Ian sing the song, Bernard cannot match it. Hence the live and demo versions by JD which have been cited as favorites of others.

Why Love: The song sticks with you forever. They take something seemingly simply (as noted in prior posts) and turn it into a song of profound emotional depth. The lyric, “Avenues all lined with trees” is one of my favorite lines from JD.

Rating: 98%.

1. fav bit. the whole song is magnificent but i'll can choose two of the best bits. The wonderful intro and hooky's bass just before the chorus

Absolutely, the first time i heard the JD demo i had pins and needles going up and down my spine, more than 15 years after i first got into them, a great moment for me.

Best bit: When the drums start... Worst bit: When it all stops... Love it: After True Faith the first NO track I heard, having saved for ages to buy Substance on cassette without having heard anything else, because I loved TF and loved the artwork for Substance... The anticipation as the tape started playing... Can still remember it vividly now... Rating: 100%

2. not so much versions. It is one of the last New Order songs that I learned to appreciate and love.
3. when i first heard the song in Substance, it is my least favorable single in the album. It really took a long, long time before I finally appreciated it. I started to like the song in the 511 video (as the background song) and when the very late music video was released. Then I slowly learned to love the song.

I can really speak of the Radiohead cover, as Ii barely listened to "Still"'s version nor the one by NO.

Considering that this is a Joy Division song, and having heard this on the Still album i.e. live, I would of liked to have heard the recorded studio version, as assuming that all of you would of loved to of heard it

Good song, the intro, shocked me, since I started liking New Order from the Blue Monday/Confusion days, and that is the best bit I like about Ceremony
