Does anybody know how cubism was invented? The relationship between Picasso and Braque reminds me what the C*** are to New Order - the inventor (NO) is copied by a (in this case, this special song) brilliant imitator, who's moving along to steal and borrow the next idea from some other original source - a very good copy, this one

There are still only 7 white notes and 5 black ones. Most music is cubist in principle, some way removed maybe, but intrinsically cubist. Radiohead are masters at this.

Well, I like The Cure as well , and just like it happens with New Order " , I do not like all of their songs... I think "The Walk" reminds of NO more than IBD... What about the Cure cover of "Love will tear us apart"?

the first time i heard it ,,i thought,,this is "dreams never end",,but the cure have made some classics,,with a little help from NO....

the cure recorded a lot of stuff that sounded like a lot of different bands. so did the beatles... not saying the cure are the beatles, but whatever. screw it. the cure were a really great pop band who weren't so much into innovation, so all of their work has echoes of other bands. that a couple, well maybe several, sound like new order is very easily explained by the fact that they were around in the 80's... in the aftermath of post-punk... and disco... EVERYONE SOUNDED LIKE NEW ORDER FOR A WHILE. jesus. new order is just credited with inventing the "dance music plus guitars" thing, (even though it's not entirely true.) and playing the high end of the bass isn't that special an idea. basses have high ends, that's the way they make them. you can put your fingers on them. if you're good, you can make fluid, melodic lines on the high end of a bass. wow. i like it when bands sound like new order. i like new order. and their sound. it's a good thing.

Wow, there is much hatred in thee for the Cure (I'm not asterisking it out, its not a dirty word)

Gotta say I love the Cure. I don't think they ripped off NO. Listen to Catepillar and A few hours after this. Robert Smith is vastly different from Barney and their songs to me are very different. But thst's just my opinion. I love them both.

And how does In Between Days sound like Age of Consent? I can hear Blue Monday in The Walk, but that's it.

I remember robert smith stating in an interview(by the time they released in between days), that they did it because New Order has used The Cures A Forest for This Time Of Night. What do you think about that?

Infact I'm really sure the whole reason for Cure's bass sound is simply cause of Hooky, it's a complete rip off. Well it makes sense, The Cure were fans of JD so it's obvious they were going to rip both JD and NO off.

A Forest is a great song but instantly reminds me of Movement. That kinda dark, mysterious sound. Good though. In between days, good song.

I've heard a few live versions of A Forest where smith starts playing the bass line from She's Lost Control on his geetar

Blue Monday actually sounded/sounds exactly like Divine's "You think Your A Man", which I'm pretty sure was released before BM. There's a very interesting note in another thread about Hooky ripping off The Cure's bass playing (unfortunately can't mind which thread), and Hook saying he found it funny when The Cure were accused of ripping off JD/NO. Although I always thought "In Between Days" and a few other Cure tracks around that time did sound like their interpretation of NO. I always liked The Cure because, like JD/NO their sound was their own, and they weren't "Jumping Someone Else's Train".

Still none too sure of their cover of "Love Will...", but then again I'm none to fond of Barney singing it either!

And just what is it with NOOLers and The Cure? I've seen many admitting to liking to far worse bands and some commercial pap. Time to give Fat Boab et al a break. They've made some damn fine music/albums over the years (and, admittedly a few turkeys eg "The Top" & "The Head On The Door").

(Edit) ps for example "Robert Mick"(sorry mate) has admitted to liking ELP (I think he means ELO),YES, GENESIS, & LED ZEPPELIN.
