PK: Good song, a bit long winded for me. I reckon it would have sounded better had I 'been there' whe it was initially released in the 80's. Best bit -the video; very cool. Worst bit - I think it's over rated by other NO-Onliners ;). About 70%

And Major, I'm far to skint to buy anyone, bar maybe meself and the missus, a drink at Finsbree

  1. Every bit of it is wonderful. It's like an Opera or something, bundles of emotions and soundscapes. If I had to nail it down to one section it'd be the post frog chorus and cow-bell wig out where Barney and Hooky are really going for it on the geetar and bass. Magnificent. The sleeve was excellent too - that cobalt blue inner sleeve and the scarlet one. Dead classy.
  2. The video was shit. Don't care what anyone says, it bored me senseless. Pretentious bollocks.
  3. Absolutely love it. Right up there with Ceremony and Temptation. Sad to think we might never hear it live again. Hold on to those memories.
  4. 97.5%
  5. I'll swap you a beer for your room-mate's Charlie. No honestly, I insist, someone has to dispose of it for you.

The best bit has gotta be the bit at the start of the lp version - where the drum sound changes from speaker to speaker, yes I'm easily pleased;) The worst bit would be dem bastard frogs:lol: Absoulute classic New Order - and again, one of their first songs that stuck in me head 95% The reson I'd buy you a drink - that would be because you'd just stripped naked in the pub and gave us a rendition of Thieves Like Us in Vic Reeve's club singing voice:D

  1. Best bit - it's Perfect. A symphony, their finest ever work.
  2. Worst bit - they don't play it live anymore.
  3. Why ? - loved it from the first live rendition, never tire of it.

  5. Because you will have bought me two :)

Its is the musical equivolent of an orgasim. It peaks and peaks ans PEAKS again and again. They never remixed or let someone else rape it. Look how they fooked up temptationand Confusion. Worse it, that clap track. Best bit, Barney coming in with guitar, whacking those chords.

  1. Best bit - I love the croaking frogs ... I love Barneys vocals on this song to, they sound great even though it sounds like he's busting his ass to hit the right notes ...

  2. Worst bit - No bad parts ...

  3. Why - The song builds up to this point where you think its going to explode ... Perfect cohesion ... Total genius ... Especially the last few minutes where we have all these instruments playing different parts, and it all comes together to sound amazing .... If only I could write a song like this ...

  4. Rating - 97%

  5. Reason you will buy me a drink at Frisbee Park - Heres an early one from me to get you started. Wish I could be there !!

Quite a few things I love about this.....the intro, the lyrics, the sleeve, the bass, and the fact that this was the first record by NO that I could easily find in an average record store.

Worst thing is dealing with all of the people who think it's an Orgy song.

I love it cause it's not overplayed round here (only seen NO twice, and when it comes on the radio it is a relief) though I suppose that if I were over in the UK or in Europe that I might feel differently.

Rating 90%

Somewhere in the Caribbean.

orgy have covered this too now? blimey, when will they stop?

& hey green we dont get the order played that much on the radio (hardly any airplay for the stuff off the last album with the possible exception of crystal)

hibster, the local top 40 station that is on at work plays hits from the 80s and 90s at noon for an hour, and Blue Monday (88 version, but still....), True Faith, and BLT are very frequently heard. Unfortuantely, they'll play something like Samantha Fox after that, and nobody round here plays much of the new stuff either.

  3. substance version is the best of all versions. not too long, not too short...rises to a wonderful climax and then spirals down to a full stop (hmm...sounds like a description of myself in flagrante delicto). absolutely perfection. the band's best song by a long shot. probably barney's best lyrics.
  4. 150% !!

  1. Drum patterns, sinister synth effects, Barney's guitar (especially on the video), Hooky's bass of course...in short, everyone is a critical part of the track, even Gillian.
  2. The lyrics are a bit cringe worthy, especially when playing it to the uninitiated (esp. the "pleasure zone" part) :uhoh: Doesn't go on long enough, they should've made a 17 minute version.
  3. One of their unequivical masterpieces, their apex in my opinion (but not their last peak)

Another thread where strangeness is occuring... have I entered the twilight zone?

This is in tight competition with Temptation as my all time fave NO song. The video version is pure ecstacy - I lose track of time and am highly suggestable when this is playing (with my pleasure zones)... :smoking:

This is now and has been my best track by New Order for more than a few years. The Video is just a pure joy to watch still to this day.And sends shivers down my spine every time i watch it. It is just truly awsome and they were just so far ahead of everybody else when they made it.

The best video ever made in the history of the whole universe - boredom turned to art.

  1. The way the intro builds up and the post-vocal instrumental takes it into overdrive.
  2. Piss off!
  3. It is New Order. It starts off restrained but goes crazy halfway through. Hooky was bang on form. Lovely electronics - that synth line that hangs in the air and teases the rest of the band in for the instrumental. Even the lyrics are wonderfully silly... Pleasure zone? Land of love? I love the video, because it's such a simple yet brilliant showcase of a masterful band at work. Up there with Ceremony as my all-time favourite.
  4. If nothing is perfect, this has to be at least 99.9%

A Happy New Year to everyone.

New on this site, and I have a question: Can the extended version of "The Perfect Kiss" (8:46, the version found on the Substance cassette) be found on any audio CD recording (and excluding any live or video version)?

Many thanks.

Classic New Order in the way that everybody has their part in this song. Love Peter Hook's bassline in this one. Wish they would play this in concert more. New Order need to bring this one back out on the road, it's been too long!!!

Ah, what can I say?! I love this song. But I love the video clip more. My mum and I can't get over Barney and his facial expressions.

The last few minutes of TPK are awesome, when all the instruments try to outdo each other!!!

Just listening to the Singles version...at 2.24, and the end of the second chorus, did they edit this part with a pair of garden shears??? You can heard Barney's 'w...' as he starts to sing 'when you are alone at night...', but he's cut off at 'w...'. Shite bit of editing!!:(

Best bit: Every single fookin' second of that song. [And I'm talking all nine minutes and twenty-one seconds of the video too. Does anyone have the audio to that one?]

Worst bit: When it ends, of course.

Why I *LOVE* it: For one, the video. Two, when Bernard stops singing and the REAL fun begins! [ETA: Oh, and a nice little cameo from a certain someone named IAN!!! ]

Rating: 100+% It's my all-time favorite NO song!

And... I wouldn't know the last bit... get over it... :D

In its nearly 9 minute version it is indeed 'perfect'. However i think the edit is shite and cant understand why they cut it down for Lowlife.

TPK is in my opinion the best 80's song there ever was. I love the live version I have the best. I rate it a 10. I would buy you a beer if I could just because you have decent taste in music. I want to see what the 7" cover looks like.

  1. Best bit - everything! It's my second all-time favorite song by any artist (next to Subculture). The video is also my favorite all-time video! Favorite versions: Hot Tracks Mix #1, #2, #3, Razormaid Mix, extended version, kiss of death, the perfect pit, actually all
  2. Worst bit - Maybe the fading part of some versions (i.e. Album Version). It's the only thing I don't like about the versions is the fading part.
  3. Why I love it - From start to finish, it's a classic. It's like each instrument is competing with each other until the end of the track where it reached a climax. As in... WOW! What a track!
  4. Rating - A Perfect 100%
