England v Ecuador

Firstly, Eriksson says he hadn't looked at Ecuador but has now seen some videos.

What's all that about ?? Surely when the group draw is made you say, right, we can play Germany, Poland, Ecuador or Costa Rica in the 2nd round and you do a little homework. :\ohwell:

Secondly, having watch the videos, can't he see their big threat is down the wings ??

Why drop Carragher for Hargreaves ?? I'm the first to say Carra is not an attacking force and we suffer because of that, but with their threat on the wings, at least he is comfortable at Right Back. Hargreaves has a mare there against Belarus and says it was because he's out of position.

If Sven was thinking about this formation why did he bring Campbell on against Sweden when Rio went off ?? Move Carra to Centre Back, Hargreaves to Right Back and bring Carrick on.

I still think we'll win, but we won't make it easy for ourselves.

And then we'll get spanked in the 1/4's

Well id love us to get through, stuff Brazil in the final and really be the best team in the world. Sadly i think we are more likely to get beat today. Weve got great world class players-but as a team they`re only Premiership quality. 2-0 to the south americans i think,i hope im proved wrong and forced to have sex with an angery great white shark, while covered in fresh nettles.

Rooney will run out of steam at about the same time that England run out of ideas.I predict a match of mostly manic defending, rounded of by the ritual humiliation of the dreaded spot kicks.

Congrats... English hooligans started their job yesterday... Many of them got arrested... :(

I'm not defending anyone, Bere, but Germans were fighting also.

As you no doubt know, the German Police have powers to arrest and hold without charge people who haven't actually done anything, just to prevent possible trouble.

Of 378 detentions, only 3 English have been charged with anything in Stuttgart.

60000+ others are there simply having a good time.

It's that wee element of fans which makes us support everyone else who plays you I'm afraid  Wearing fake tin hats singing about 10 German Bombers along with several other distasteful stuff about the War, it's been all over the news today. And yer right, they always ruin it for the genuine fans who just want to support the team.

No need to say who I will be cheering on, but I can't see past you lot winning 3-0 or 3-1.

92 degrees F...can the Engerlish team handle that kind of heat??? And Wayne Rooney is wearing a frigging long sleeved shirt...

Ecuador sends England packing in a 1-0 shocker....

(of course, I've been crap at these predictions so far)

Not disagreeing Shug but I'm sure I read the Tartan Army gave a rousing rendition of 'There's only one Bomber Harris a couple of years back". I think there's more to your anti-Englishness than that.

Never heard of the Tartan Army singing that. My dad was threatened and attemptedly bottled when he was only a young lad watching a Scotland v England game with his mates. So you can imagine my dad's feelings about England fans.....obviously as a youngster you pick on vibes of "Fuck them" :thumb:

A quick google shows I'm not the only one;

...what is being celebrated is English and not British nationalism, and this has been a development of really just the last 15 years. This is a complex phenomenon that needs separate examination; however it is my view that English nationalism is not necessarily more reactionary than Welsh or Scottish nationalism. Certainly the myth that England supporters are more right-wing than Scottish ones needs to be punctured, I have heard Scottish fans chanting "there's only one Bomber Harris" at the Germans.

 Fair enough, Didnae mean I din't believe you just that I'd never heard it. Whe we start throwing bottles and chairs and getting water cannoned and arrested in large numbers - that's when I'll stop goading you lot.

I also spent two years in Kettering at college, and the grief I got was unbelieveable, it doesnae help when you've got a name like Hugh and you have a bit of a Scottish accent, it was good natured most of the time, but there were one or two incidents while I was over there.

I also hate being patronised that "we'd support Scotland blah blah blah" most of my mates are England fans and there's no way they'd want us to do well if England weren't there. And there's nothing wrong with that.

Scotland have always been the underdogs and through our history with Englans we try and goad ye's anyway we can. Needless to say I will be supporting Por-tooo-gal next week.

RE shug (and real scottish people) supporting anyone but England...

I wouldn't expect Scots to support England, I wouldn't support Scotland, I'd just be indifferent to them. But this business of cheering whoever they are playing against (being an England opposer?) makes Scots look as if they are just a teeny bit obsessed with us...one day they (and foolish English people who get all angry up about it) will realise its really a form of flattery!

Anyway, when I watch England play, all I can think of is how incredibly well paid these buggers are, considering how mediocre they presently appear to be. They might beat Portugal, but I can't imagine this bunch beating Brazil or Argentina or Germany. So Shug's interest in the cup will soon be over anyway. I bet he'll miss us when we're gone.
