OK, Beckham scored from a free kick for England, but has he lost it?

Becks was Mr. Excellence of the corner and free kick domains up to a few years ago; now he usually lobs the ball miles off target- should Sven take him to one side and say; '...look mate, I know you saved us yesterday and you are a 'star' but maybe you could give someone else a bash...'

I reckon England could have scored 2 or 3 more goals if we'd had a better targetting computer than Beckham!

Saying that thou'; 'nuff respect for pulling one out of the fire at exactly the right time!

Problem is at the moment plenty of supposedly top-drawer players are just not doing the business... It's not as if Beck's is the only one - fair point his distribution and set piece accuracy and deadliness has gone downhill, but he has had a hand in most of our goals (Sweden aside) so far, which is more than can be said of Lampard... The answer is, I fear, to pray...

He's always been vastly overrated, but his lack of pace is now alarming, and he's started to lose some of the set-piece accuracy (says he after Beckham put us through against Ecuador and set up the goal against Parallelogram).

What worries me more though is the gathering evidence that Lampard and Gerrard can't play together in the centre of midfield. I would seriously be inclined to go 4-4-1-1 for the Portugal game, with Gerrard in the hole behind Rooney, Lennon wide right and Carrick alongside Lampard in central midfield. Joe Cole still on the left (though he was shit last night). Maybe controversially, but I'd also bring Carragher in for Terry.

No, he's still got it.

He might not be able to go past people, but then he never could, so it's not as if he's 'lost' that; but his tackling back is outstanding. In particular one left foot defensive clearance about a minute before he went off. He was dead on his feet for the last 30 mins but he was still running.

Lennon has been great on the two occasions he's come on, but you're not going to get that over 90 mins.

Ok, tackling back was pushing it a bit far. Blocking back maybe

I still think he brings more to the team than just set pieces.

Agreed.

Not like Lampard is bringing anything to the team either, but seems to be escaping the criticism.

Beckham plays better with G. Neville in the side, makes a big difference to his game.

 so you DO know your footy !

Neville has carried Beckham for years. Its only coz he looks like a weasel-faced arse he gets stick. World Class

Knows how to celebrate a goal too, unlike that miserable cocky twat Henry :evil4:
