Just watched MotD and the best English Centre-Half is back.

You can't drop a the new captain after 3 games so rio's got to go for me.

But having said that Woodgates only played one game, so he might have a stinker the rest of the season.

Rio.

Lost count of how many times he gave the ball away in Mclarens first 3 games.

Of course, Woodgate has to prove himself first. Admittedly, he was very good against Arsenal, but he needs to be consistent first.

"Woody" and a couple of mates could always kick the shite out of Rio so he's not fit to play. :\ohwell:

Why thank you.

Nice to see you can engage in reasonable debate like an adult. A lot of people would just revert to using an insult which is either a) crap or b) nonsensical or c) both... hang on a minute...

Oh.

The above is indeed true. Although at least I don't always act like either a) a twat or b) a twat or c) both... hang on a minute...

Oh.

i'm just bored.

No, in all seriousness, I'm just biased to Rio cos I'm a ManYoo fan. Woody is good, but who's to say he could actually stay in the England side if he ever got in it, without just getting injured straight away.

I prostrate myself in front of the worlds greatest living comedian!

Back on topic, Rio is only in the team because Big Sol has completely lost his head. Some of his defending the last few seasons has been staggeringly bad. And all too often he tried to play the ball out of defence himself instead of giving it to someone who can actually do it much better than he can. His performance against Macedonia (where admittedly, no one bar Crouch, Hargreaves and john terry covered themselves in any kind of glory) belied the fact he is an international of over eight years experience.

Of course, Mclaren will drop Rio the same day he drops Lampard. i.e. never. So no matter how ineffectual he actually is, he can sleep well at night knowing his place is safe as long as he remains under contract at Manchester United.

Are you implying, sir, that McClaren is not, in fact, the greatest manager of all time? And in doing so you do realise you imply that That Bastard Sven was not the worst manager of all time, and that we actually won games under him? Something that you should know to be completely false if you watch any BBC coverage of The New Era.

Woody>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Defoe.

Get him up front, and get his head on it.

no point in answering that.

he aint played 10 games in a row yet.

he's the most stylish centre half for sure though.

I don't think Terry is actually a proven international player yet, which makes the decision to make him captain even more surprising. That said, he is your archetypal English centre-half leader. Ferdinand's a different type of defender, as is Woodgate, you probably can't have both Ferdinand and Woodgate in the same side though without a Terry figure alongside, and we don't want a back three!

I'm old fashioned... i like my defenders to be able to defend.

With the likes of a fit Ledley King thrown into the mix,it's fair to say England are well off for centre-halves.. I think Woodgate can play with any one of the others. That would be Terry, but Ledley King's going to have big claims, when fit(it's going to be Terry and someone, because Terry has been made captain,ofcourse)..I would never have Rio Ferdinand playing for England, since he complained about having to play in a friendly couple of years back.Like his place in the side was nailed on.Tit:nod:

See, while there are questions over Woodgates fitness, you've also got to bear in mind whether Rio is going to remember to turn up for drug tests. Or whether playing for England is more important that going to the shops.
