I knew they'd miss Cannavaro, didn't realise how badly though. Never seen such a poor Italian defence. Credit to the Dutch, Sneijder's goal was a beauty.

Sneijders goal was a beauty, but did u see that rush from van Bronckhorst?? holy fuck, he kept the bal out of the goal, kicked it from the line and rushed to the other side of the pitch to give the assist on Kuyt who gave way to Sneijder. Counter out of the book.

Is it me or is the Dutch team a bit shit on paper?

Certainly compared to their past teams of superstars?

I mean, Ooijer, Boulharouz and Van Bronkhorst across the back? None of whom hardly set the Prem alight.

Guess that's where Van Basten has excelled, and where we fail miserably. He's built a 'team', rather than just selected 11 media personalities.

Like the way he's got two bulldogs in Engelaar and De Jong bossing the midfield too. Good League-One tactics!

Proper club team attitude, I guess? Playing for each other, rather than themselves?

What is that all about? Whenever have Holland ever worn blue socks? Sorry, not adversed in the traditional colours of the Netherlands apart from them being orange. And orange. And more orange. Then some more orange for good measure. But how come they've brought blue into the equation ? If Holland had come on to the pitch for the 1978 World Cup Final in blue socks they'd have had been banished back to the dressing rooom immediately forthwith and ordered to change them back to orange.Or else the Argies would be granted the Jules Rimet without a ball being kicked.

Hard to imagine how the Dutch are gonna fuck this up. As for the one bad game comment, you can expect them to have that against Romania. Dont't look for to many big names in the team that day. Good luck to the Dutch.:thumb:

Al's made a good point there. I started out saying I'll only support them when they're playing Italy, but I was really impressed and thoroughly enjoyed the game. Not a single self-centred cunt in sight! And the France game was no different. I will no longer be referring to them as the orange cunts, and have even succumbed to the latest graze: my telly is stuck full of orange, red, white and blue hairy wee lions :)

Yep, COME ON HOLLAND! Give the second string a run out tonight and let the Romanians score a last minute winner to knock out the French and Italians

Tricky isn't it?

If they lose, they get rid of Italy and France. If they win, they confirm that they are in very good shape and that they are the best scoring machine of the tournament but will allow the winner of the France vs Italy continue the competition.

Which is the best option?

just returned from a short trip to south-france, weather was great and the food, wine and beer even better but it was the dutchies who did me proud:thumb:

I watched the game in a local bar and tabac in besse-sur-isolle and me and my mate were the only ones interested in the game. All the frenchies is the bar (about 10 of them doing pastis) couldn't give a fuck about the game. And two minutes before the start of game they switched to some horse-racing and back again.

Great game it was, so instead of 'allez les blues' it was 'adieu les blues' (although Ribery is quite a good player)

No one is having any interest in the championship in France. I even spoke to a frenchman who said that the best final for this tournament would be Holland-England:D

We dutchies face the dillema tonight, what to do?? win, lose or draw? i'd say by the shape and state we are in now just go on with winning. I'm sure we will forefill our duty and us and the world proud:clap:

See my previous comments about the French, going back years on this forum. I work for a French bank, the majority of them aren't in the slightest bit interested in football.

You only have to look at their team to see exactly who takes an interest in the game in France. A white middle-class sport it ain't.

Knocking France & Italy out with a half arsed effort vs Romania is the best option.

If Romania beat Holland (and its possible with a weakened Dutch team) and France v Italy end in a draw then the two World Cup finalists will have to face a penalty shoot out to decide who finishes third. Strange but true!

NO Regret wrote: If Romania beat Holland (and its possible with a weakened Dutch team)

It's possible against a full Dutch team too - the Romanians beat them and drew with them in qualifying.

The Dutch are on fire though, aren't they?

Think Van Basten has said he's gonna rest De Jong and Engelaar though cos they've already got one booking each.

EDIT: No chance of pens now

It all just gets better :) Didn't realise that.

Hoping for a cracking France Italy game with them slogging away at each other for the win and then seeing them both drop to their knees when they hear about Romania's 93rd minute winner :evil4: The fact that they'd then might have to take pointless spot kicks is qualidee :spit:

piss-poor game that Italy-France one. To bad Ribery had to leave the pitch, he's the one that can make a difference.

Holland played allright, not the sharpest game, but they did what was expected. And three wins in a row, not many countries can say that:bow:

Now let's see who's our next opponent, russia or sweden...bring them on on saturday, good time for a piss-up:evil4:

I ended up with an Italy-Germany final.

Even with all that's gone on in the past two weeks you can still see them both grinding it out all the way to the final. :nonono:

Football and immigration?

  1. The newcomers usually support their teams. When Turkey qualified against Czech Republic, streets were full of Turkish people celebrating.
  2. Football is a means to "take money" (as Cantona says) and fully integrate when born French in France. To name a few, Platini (Italians parents), Cantona (Italian father, Catalan mother), Zidane (Algerian parents), Kopa (Polish parents)...
  3. When people feel they are fully integrated, they lose interest in football most of the time...

Our running gag, when we watch a football match with my father, is to ask where people like Sagnol, Coupet can come from as their names sound weird and that the colour of their skin seems... different from the one of the others... Second degree, of course.

Football is still the favourite sport in France. But in my town, people are divided in three categories. 49% like football. 41% like rugby. 10% like handball as the French team is merely made of our local team. If handball was not so popular here, the town would be a rugby town like most of the Southwestern part of France.

Edit: Out of the people who like sport, of course. Many French do not have any interest in it at all.

I noticed on my vistit that rugby is quite big in Toulon and Aix-en-Provence, well people had more to say about the rugby than about the footy:D

It seems like I heard on the telly, just prior to the France World Cup, that rugby was the most popular sport in France.

A Final Germany vs. Holland would be nice. But I don't believe it. I think, all teams, which played their third game without their best players - Portugal, Holland, Spain - will finish this round.

I knew Holland wouldnt win the Euros. Peaked too soon and not got the right mentality (luck they didnt meet the Netherlands, wot a game that would have been!).

Glad Spain won last night but Ive not seen enough to suggest they can go all the way. Defence is creaky and big time players going missing in big games.

Looks like we're gonna have a Germany-Russia final. Can't see Turkey pulling another stunt with half their side either injured or suspended. Should be a piece of Kuchen for the Germans. They've showed they can play their usual game (solid, secure and strong), or in an attractive, attacking way. Ballack or Arsjavin, they're the key factors,IMHO.

The chances for both teams are absolute equal. Spain is a litte bit overrated at the moment. They made most of their goals against Russia.

Much respect to the Turks! They made the Germans look very shaky in the first half. Nearly did their last minute escape-trick again, but one must admit, the Germans are the real masters of last minute scoring! Pity the Russians din't play as good as did against Sweden and Holland, but credits to Spain for beating them twice.

So far all my predictions screwed up, so me wishing for Spain to win will probably mean the Germans will win the final. Good luck to both on Sunday :thumb:

Strange tournament, the best side over the whole tournament were worthy winners, but there were also some sparkling displays from Russia and Holland in patches, and the saracens late rally was always entertaining. What really surprised me was how crap some of the teams were, in particular the French and the Greeks. Germany had their moments but that has to be the worst German defence in international history, I felt sorry for Ballack. Italy were often way too negative.

England? Not good enough to qualify, which says a lot......

I agree (nearly). Dont forget the 2 hosts (Switzerland and Austria) in the crap camp. I was amazed how open and attacking most of the games were and glad Spain won as I thought they througherly deserved it, and probably had the solidest defence, best goalie and best midfield, oh and their strikers werent too bad either. I dont feel sorry for Ballack one bit though. he's german.

Best Euros ever in my book. I think if England had showed up it would have been like watching France/Greece/Sweden/Austia (take your pick). Were so far behind and I doubt were ever win anything in my lifetime.
