Without disrespect to the Scottish, I looked at the Celtic and Rangers teams recently and theres only about 3 players I've heard of. This is strange as I remember them always being filled with quality homegrown talent and johnney foreigners.

To me it seems the SPL is on a downward spiral. Lack of money, success in Europe, attracting quality players. These all seem to be interlocked.

The fact that Gordon Strachen, who was mediocre as a manager for Saints in English Premiership, went to Scotland and won 3 back to back titles with Celtic sums it all really.

Celtic reached the UEFA Cup final in 2003, the huns got to the final last year. We also reached the last 16 of the CL twice under Strachan, beating the likes of Man U and AC Milan on the way. Quite a remarkable achievement considering the finances of the Scottish game.

Mediocre? He guided Saints to 11th in his first season. They had looked certain for relegation when he took the job in October of that season. The following year he took them to 8th and got to the FA Cup final!

Ok maybe I was a bit hard on Old Strach. He did do a good job at getting decent league finishes for Saints and getting them to FA cup final but my point being that he went to Scotland and was an overnight success. Maybe Ince or Adams should try up there!

Where has all the money gone from Scottish Football? Did Sultana take it all when they went bust?

As for UEFA cup finals, even Boro did that (and like everyone else lost). :evil4:

And when will Scotland qualify for a major tournament again? It seems only EIRE and England are capable teams. I personally would like to see Wales qualify for at least one tournament in my lifetime. But it seems less remote as time goes by.

Scottish football just doesn't have the backing like the EPL. It's a shame the Old Firm can't join the EPL (as they would both over time be top 6 sides).

It certainly is a tougher job managing a Scottish club ,and usually sets you up to deal with an easier job down south. How many times has an English manager won the Premier League?

Scotland should qualify for a major championship soon , as the teams ,especially the Old Firm are buying and bringing through home grown talent. It is a population issue - London has a bigger population than Scotland

Doubt you will see Wales qualify as they are pish and Ireland only qualified when they fielded mainly English players.

Ince and Adams would struggle in Scotland. If they can't do a job at Blackburn or Pompey , how would they cope in the Champions league and having 60,000 fans screaming at them every other week. :)
