Morning Star Review of Retro

THE seminal Joy Division came to an abrupt end in 1980 with the suicide of their charismatic singer and lyricist Ian Curtis. With the addition of keyboard player Gillian Gilbert, the remaining members reconvened as New Order and, to date, only the careers of Pink Floyd and the Manic Street Preachers can compare with their ability to increase their success and influence, despite the loss of such a pivotal member of the group.

Dotmusic's review of Retro

New Order chose a succinctly foretelling name in the aftermath of Ian Curtis's suicide. It speaks of a group intent on putting their glorious but infernally doomed past behind them. A group who would engineer a pioneering musical vision and, interestingly, write the first decent football song. 'Retro' - in theory - bids to reflect the resurrection of a group of gloomy, post-punk torch-bearers, who became a revolutionary pop group and ultimately infiltrated and shaped modern music in a more consuming fashion than even Joy Division could consider.

Retro is album of the week in the Scottish Paper "The Daily Record" (4 stars out of 5)

The pioneers of British Electronic Rock would never be so predictable as to release a standard greatest hits at christmas time. Instead, they've conjured up a brilliant 4 CD box set which is a must have for any self respecting New Order devotee. Each disc has been specially compiled by a host of special guests, and the result is a kaleidoscopic celebration of Britains finest. CD One (The Hits) is picked by the writer Miranda Sawyer, who opts for such classics as True Faith, Bizarre Love Triangle and the ground breaking Blue Monday. Journalist John McCready celebrates the New Order sounds of The Early Years with the likes of Elegia, All Day Long and Your Silent Face. The third CD features remixes by Hacienda DJ Mike Pickering, while CD four has been hand picked by the band and includes New Order live gems.

Retro review: you made the difference!

A review in The Observer today is claiming what most of the forum contributors thought. "Fans on a New Order website grumbled so much when the details of the box set were announced - not enough rarities, you see - that a fifth CD was hastily added, of harder-to-find material, such as the full version of 'Elegia'." So you can see that we did have a small part on the bonus disc you can get with Retro, and again thanks to Jonathan Scott for being the link with the band's management. (Remember that you can see Jonathan's work in the bonus features on the 511 Finsbury Park DVD). Go ahead to read the full review from Kitty Empire.

Experience Crystal by CyberSecrecy

This is a version of Crystal that surface before Get Ready, when this song was given away to a german label, MFS, many people are aware of the Corvin Dalek version, but NewOrderOnline has found another version, which is by CyberSecrecy, and it features exclusive lyrics that we are not sure the Corvin Dalek version had: The closer that I get to you The more you run away from me Just tell me what I've got to do You don't have to be afraid of me I want your love I need your love I want the things that others have Whenever you're here with me That's where I want to be This song is our Song of the Month in our audio archives, and can be found on a 12" Crystal from MFS/Berlin or on a trance compilation called Trance Extasy 2002.
