Baseball playoffs thread

It seems the Cubbies aren't Completely Useless By September, they beat the shi-z-nit out of my once-beloved Atlanta Braves (they should drop the "Tomahawk Chop" in favor of the "Tomahawk Choke") and have advanced one step closer to the Series, having to get past the Marlins. The Yanks crushed the Twins, and Boston apparently still has some life, drawing out the series with the A's to a game 5. This is why I love post-season baseball!

How 'bout next year? Maybe the Tigers pull off a "worst to first"? A Devil Rays/Mets Series? Nobody responding to this thread? :D

I am just happy the Giants lost, and i am hoping for a Bosox marlins final, with the bosox winning in game 7 with manny ramirez finally waking up and hitting a gw homer, and I hope the cubs get crushed; I hate the damn Trojan, Mark Prior

i am a die-hard cubs fan, hope we go all the way, but i learned my lesson in 1989 (when i was 10),and in 98 and will take it as it comes. i just get sick of cub fans who celebrate winning the series to advance like they have won the world series.

Well this cubs team is better than the one in 98, so they fo have a damn good chance, but their bullpen is too unreliable, so I think the marlins will beat the cubbies in five, and hopefully prior doesn't get a win

I have to say I was impressed with this Cubs team when I saw them during the regular season, old Dusty Baker lit a fire under their collective asses. Mark Prior may easily be the best young pitcher in the game (who might likely flame out and disintergrate after this year, as often happens with rookie or first-trip-to-the-bigs pitchers), and Kerry Wood dominated the Braves much like Rog Clemens. I'm just a little unsure as to whether the city of Chicago can comprehend a team that would actually stand a fair to good chance of winning it all.

Dontrelle and Brandon Webb will last longer than Prior and have more bountiful careers since they don't have to throw 130 pitches every start, and no Chicago cannot fathom a winning psorts team at the moment

I was at a Bicyclists for Dean party last night. They tapped the keg at 7 pm (no one had a job). Anywho, rather than spouse Deanisms we watched the Cubs. Great Game!!!!!!!!!!

BTW, I smelled more cannibis while watching Duran Duran play live than at the Liberals for Dean party. WTF is up with that??

That was quite possibly one of the best division series games I've ever personnally witnessed. The homers by Varitek(sic) and Manny Rameriez were stunning, the mid-field collision between Johnny Damon and Damien Walker was worse than a Nascar wreck, and the ninth inning was a pure nail-biter no matter who you were rooting for. All in all, a great game.

Now as for the BoSox's chances against the Yankees....well, I wouldn't hold my breath. I will predict that a Yankees-Marlins World Series would probably be the least-watched in the history of baseball, though

The Sox aren't going anywhere. As far as I care, I hope they lose so that everyone at my school - since I'm in Boston - gets majorly disappointed. And, considering how badly the sox are doing, the Phillies have a better chance of going to the world series.

the phillies are not in the postseason, and the bosox just courageously beat the A's to advance to the ALCS to face the Yankees

The Cubs are up 4-0 against the Marlins right now, this may very well be their year....or not, I might've just jinxed them

Yep, helluva game last night indeed, exciting stuff to be remembered for a long while. Just thank Choakland for their base running errors in the previous game was Tejada thinking, as well as the other runner being totally faked out by thinking that Varitek had the ball. My Bosox buddy was beside himself today, but I glady let him have his day, he's suffered enough over the years.

It'll be interesting to see how Boston recovers from that series, we agreed that their attitude was "we'll worry about tomorrow when that comes". Yanks pitching is set up nicely, but doubtless Boston will win a game by something like 13 to 2, but overall, I still like the Yanks to advance again.

Hopefully against the Cubs.

Oh, I just have to resurrect the spirit of Bucky Dent for this series.......

Glad to see nobody got seriously hurt after the silly extra curricular activities between the Chowderheads and the Yankees yesterday. What is going on in Pedro's mind these days, must be the pressure from being there. I mean, didn't the pitcher Kim, the one acquired from AZ but didn't make this series roster because he can't pitch well against the Yanks, flip off the hometown crowd cause they had the temerity to boo him when he was being introduced.

I'm not a big Yankee fan by any means, it's just that having to deal with their fans is enough for me to say Go Yankees!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(thank God I don't live in the Northeast!).

I didn't go to the game yesterday, but I was by the post office near Fenway park (mailing out a story for a competition, anyway) and I almost got pushed over a railing by Sox fans in the subway station. Unfortunately, I have no idea how the game turned out.

Man, the Cubs had the chance to pound the Marlins into non-existence and choked (I think the final was Marlins 4, Cubs 0). There was almost a brawl between Sosa and the Marlins pitcher (Beckett?), who threw incredibly close to Sammy's head (must've thought his head was made of cork, huh? :D ), and the Cubbies just couldn't get it done tonight.

I don't think I'm even gonna watch the Sox-Yankees tonight, I'm so disgusted with the fact that the Sox have basically let the Yankees bitch-slap them around. From this point on, I don't think I can say "Go Yankees!" as long as that asshole Steinbrenner has anything to do with them, but I can say the Red Sox are letting the "Curse of the Bambino" take effect and ream them up the ass. Zimmer charging Pedro and getting knocked down for it doesn't reflect well on either team, but I'll be damned if that doesn't light a fire under the Yanks' asses and lead them to annilhate the Sox.

I just want to say the Fox broadcast team put a terrible spin on all of Saturday's incidents. In fact Jeff Nelson sucker punched the Red Sox employee who was in the visitor's bullpen for extra security purposes. Jeff Nelson and Karim Garcia were escorted from Fenway in handcuffs, but the Fox announcers missed that.

Boston needs to whip the Yanks just for the comments that the Yankees prez made about Fenway (and by extentsion Boston) being a culture of disorder or something like that. Zimmer's apology was heartfelt, but I doubt it'll do anything to soothe tensions between these two. And damn it all if I have to work tonight, so I miss it again (I missed the first 6 or so innings Saturday).

The Cubs might actually benefit from a return to Wrigley, maybe the home crowd can pump them up enough to put on another hitting display against the Marlins. I don't HATE the Marlins like I'm starting to hate the Yankees, but I would rather see the Cubs make it to the October classic (though, with the way scheduling has been the past few years, it's more likely to end up in early November).

I doubt the Fox sports analysts are as talented or inclined to spin stuff as the FNC bunch :D but they have to report what they get, and often during a game, in the heat of battle as it were, it's hard to fact-check and make sure you've got the facts straight. I cut them some slack over that.

If the Yanks want to see a culture of disorder, they should just go south to Philly after a Sixers, Eagles, or Flyers game in which the home team actually wins. Boston, in comparison, is quite tame.
