Just a word about the rules, was watching some of Green Bay against er, someone else late last night(it was 0-0 for ages, if you know the game I mean). When a ball is thrown and hits the ground it seems to be deemed dead and yet Favre threw a pass that slipped out of his hands and that was deemed a fumble, so the ball was in play, is that right? Was wondering if only the quaterback can throw the ball and if he has to throw forwards and overarm all the time? Can the ball be passed more than once? Oh and I fell asleep so don't know what the score was but has a game ever ended goalless?

The ball is dead when it hits the ground during a forward pass. If a quarterback drops the ball before his arm starts the forward motion to pass then it is considered a fumble and the ball can be recovered by either team.
The ball can only be passed forward once during a play and the person throwing the ball must be behind the line scrimmage (the point where the ball started from). There is no limit to how many times a ball can passed backwards to another player during a play. I hope this helps you out.

Cheers, so in effect they could develope plays were the ball is moved forward in similar style to rugby? Has anyone ever tried?

I know that MArtin Johnson (Englands Rugby captain) played with the 49ers on their warm ups (spring something or other they call it) for fun as he is a massive fan. I also know of a few American football players who refused to play rugby as padding wasn't worn & they were fearful of the injuries with the high impacts

there is NOTHING wrong with NASCAR...and come now, surely the most boring thing to watch on TV is when ESPN decides to show us people playing POKER!!!!!

The size and strength of the players and the speed at which the game is played always has and always will warrant the use of pads and helmets.

That would be great! However, even if the Cowboys do win the NFC Championship, I think the Chiefs in the AFC will have something to say about the Super Bowl.

I think the Chiefs will come up short; there have been other great Chiefs teams that have choked in the playoffs; I think the Titans are the best in the AFC

You're right of course - I watched some the other day and some of it was frightening....250lbs hitting 250lbs at speed, something has to give.
