Let me start by saying that I'm not a 'Rings' geek; in fact, I was skeptical about all of the movies while going in, but I was always pleasantly surprised. I've never read the books, but I like the movies. I went and saw a midnight showing of Return of the King last night and I thought it was terribly good. Sure, it had its flaws like all the others, but it may be the best one of the three. One of my eyes even leaked a little near the end. While it's no "Dead Alive," arguably Peter Jackson's masterwork, it's still a damn good entertainment.

What's the general consensus on it, then?

will probably end up seeing it but they are wearng a bit thin - serkis was fn in the last one & is probly the only reason I'm going to go.

I started reading the books a few years back but just found them dull.

Took the daughter for her birthday on friday (10.30pm showing - didn't get out till 2am !! ) and found it quite enjoyable , but the last 20 mins, WTF was that all about ? should have finished at the end of the battle

Went to see this last week with the missus, the action is magic, but at 3hrs 15mins it's a wee bit long, and the noise done ma box in, the screaching of them flying bird things were annoying as feck. I had to pop out for a fag after about an hour and a half. 9/10 from the Shugster....still not as good as "The Life Of Brian" :evil4: :karate:

Saw it on Tuesday night; top stuff. I was nearly :cry: at the end! And to answer one of the last posts above (can't remember who made it), the last 20 minutes were for tying up all the loose ends.

just came from the theater. man.... :eek3: VERY good. nearly tears? nah, i drop them in quantity. and when i tought i could take a breathe and calm down then again another emotional effect and crying again like a baby. DAMN! i was with my girlfriend for christ sake, and she didn´t even drop 1 tear!!!! :nonono:

i have to watch it again on a better cinema. this one i went had poor sound quality and the copy of the film was scratched in some parts. a pure digital cinema would be the best.

btw, anyone saw the director´s cut of the first 2 films?

Have the extended DVDs of the first two. Very good indeed. Sat through the full extended version of The Two Towers last Saturday night (just over 3 and a half hours) & thought the extra scenes were brilliant. You get more of the book on screen, and get more insight to some of the characters.

It's been rumoured, and pretty strongly backed up by director Peter Jackson and Sir Ian McKellen (Gandalf) that the extended version of Return Of The King will be over 5 hours long! :eek: Can't wait.

Probably won't get to see it in a cinema, thanks to work. Almanso, did you hear Annie Lennox's song 'Into The West' at the end (during the closing credits I think)? If so, what did you think of it? I have the soundtrack & think it's awesome, really suits the ending. Going by the book's ending, that is.

well, everything Mrs Lennox does has class. i couldn´t listen to it that much because i literally ran out of the cinema as fast i could (it was premier and it was full inside and outside!). but i´ll see it again and i´ll get back to you about the song. ;)

i´d love to have the extended films in my hands. i think they edited the first one here. not sure about the second one, though. and the third one... 5 hours?!?!?!? :eek3: awsome!

5 hours? oh GOD.....

My roommates are both Rings geeks, so they tried to make me watch both extended versions, but I didn't have the patience to sit through the whole thing.

I'm having enough trouble trying to finish Kieslowski's 10-hour movie The Decalogue, as I'm only halfway through. Then I'm also halfway through Angels in America, so I have another 3 hours of that as well, plus a Cassavettes and Jodorowsky movie to get through.

fooking hell...I just saw the first installment of this trilogy on Christmas day...guess I've got some catching up to do...

I must admit, it was better than I was thinking it would be!!!

I saw it today. yes long but worth seeing in the cinema for all you DVD addicts.

A bit over sentimental. The spider in it is tops!!! Scary fucker!!

Worth seeing for the experience. Go See !!!!! :bag:

Finally saw it tonight, after avoiding the masses for the first week or so, and nasty weather for the last couple, and enjoyed it immensely. Even though it's playing in my town, the theater isn't the best, so I drove 30 miles to see it in all its sonic grandeur, and boy was it loud.

Loved Aragorn's speech to the men before the commencement of battle, and the part that got to me was when, after awakening in bed after the ring had been destroyed, Frodo's look as Sam entered the room with the other members of the fellowship clearly indicated that he knew that none would be there if Sam hadn't been so true and loyal, though the lack of admittance onscreen of such a thought annoyed me a bit, same as with the absence of Saruman (would've loved to seenWormtongue stab him in the back, and the Hobbits clean up the Shire).

9 out of 10 as well. Very well done Peter ; glad that I was able to see his vision of the books done into this series of films.

Not 100% certain yet but hopefully the extended DVD should have all those scenes with Grima/Saruman/Scouring etc. And hopefully the confrontation between Saruman & Gandalf at Isengard too. One of the finest chapters in the entire book, in my opinion.

Only 10 months (approx) to wait for the extended version. Roll on November!
