I currently live in Ilkeston in Derbyshire and me and the missus have the local, which is The Rutland Cottage, is ok but but not brill, which is a shame as it is within staggering distance.

We have visited the Rose and Crown 5 miles away which fellow NOOLer Paul Trowell has been spotted in. However my favorite pub must be The Greyhound in Milton Malsor- Northampton, From when I used to live dowbn there, Good food, good beer, good atmaosphere, good beer garden great watching the sun go down and a fruit machine that paid ou, not to mention friendly locals.

Finally Budweiser King of beers Pah! Have the yanks not tried Stella lol

The Forresters Arms. Top of Sandy Lane. Romiley, Cheshire. Fine Beer, no idiots, and superb staff. When i am not at university, i can often be found in the little room, sat there discussing the issues of the day, while drinking fosters and having a packet of cheese and onion.

One complaint though. They dont do those Walkers sensations yet. Shocking.

My local is terrible ("plastic seats/beer below par") and I live next door to it - what a fucker!

My favourite pub in York is The Royal Oak on Goodramgate - proper beer, etc, etc.

My favourite pub anywhere is probably either The Lathkill Hotel in Over Haddon, Derbyshire (good food and beer at the end of a long walk) or The Fenchurch, Leeds (great for getting properly pissed - good tunes too).

The only establishment that I frequent is the Cumming Tap in Cumming, Ia. It is 8 miles south of my city on a bicycle trail. The only way I go there is on bike and it is usually a 30 mile round trip from where we begin. As far as bars go its close to being a shithole, dark, smokey, scary locals. And it gets invaded by hooligan bicyclists with too much money, inability to handle their liquor and preversions.

The selection of beer on tap is usual small town American crap, Bud, Bud Light and Amber Bock. Guiness cans are available. Whiskey selection is ok--C.C., Crown Royal, Chivas. Music is provided via jukebox, standard rock and roll and country but Bob, a bartender, put in London Calling and a few other of his faves. Most people are there to watch sports anyway.

Food is served in the form of pizza. Not the best but not too bad as far as bar food goes.

the only time it gets scary is when we stop in during hunting season and they are packed with local hunters and we are dressed as bike fags. but as long as we do not piss on the floor or cause trouble we are accepted.

By the way: "The Cumming Tap"?

:wtf: Surely the dodgiest sounding pub name ever...

Seriously, that is the name of the bar I visited the most in the past 5 years. It is in Cumming, Iowa, a small town of nothing other than a VFW hall, post office, a few churches and a place that restores old Jaguars. Its claim to fame is that it is the home of US Senator Tom harkin (Dem). But since Cumming is on a major bike trail the town makes money.

They sell shirts that say "I (heart) Cumming!" If I'd ever learn html I will post a photo of me wearing that shirt talking to US Senator Alexander Lamar(Rep of TN). Great shirts!

But in the UK, isn't a pub different than a bar?

I loaded a new picture on my profile. Actually 2 photos of the famous "I Love Cumming" shirt only available at the Cumming Tap. The top features me talking to US Senator Lamar Alexander back in 1999 when he was running for President. The bottom is my bike and drinking buddy Anders whom I spend alot of time with riding to and from the Cumming tap. I have yet to see an establishment that sells a better shirt.

just click on my profile.

It's a dog they keep in the back to help lick up spilled beer, urine, blood, etc.

Or it's the old crone who offers handjobs for a tanner.

The Gate in Kingston 2 huge screens show every footie game (including serie a and la liga !) cheap food, good beer and some wonderous football supporting characters who frequent the place! including a character we call "england man" we was watching a euro04 qualifier and this burly bald bloke had this england shirt on was by the bar swearing his head off at the screen at our inept performance, downed a full pint of lager, slammed it on the bar, marched off to the bogs for a piss, returned and marched straight up to the fruit machine with fag in mouth, gestured "oii!" to the barmaid raising his hand to his lips gesturing he wanted another lager and then no word of a lie he belched!!! he probably got into a fight later as well as he was totally bladdered!!

I know your local. Dartmouth Park though, more than Highgate, surely?

The Mrs went to Parliament Girls, just over the road from there.
