My mate did me a cd last week of old house records we all used to love when we were younger,i forgot how good it was back then (1988-1993) compared to the house music around today.
It had loads of genuinely good tracks (young mc, denise lopez, jimi polo, etc) so i was wondering,what period of dance music other NOOLers like and have they got any favorite records?
Round here Northern Soul never realy went away, insomuch as most lads could cop a move or two to Junior Walker when the need arose, in fact now at a couple of club nights you get to see one of the broadest demographics possible with teenagers picking up moves from guys in their fifties. So whilst I can understand the view that house got lads onto the dancefloor, round here it was just kinda assimilated, along with the E of course, plus it stopped one of me mates trying to dance like a mime in the Roxy room at Pips , Manchester or Berlin club, one of 'em We used to follow a local dj, lad called nipper and Gerald Simpson, In fact A Guy Called Geralds gig a the Ritz M/Cr was a crackin night

I was lookin 'round the site, cos I realise I neglect areas of it, anyway click neworderonline,then statistics, then post count and there it is a chart. I'm in the top ten, laugh I nearly shat, I might print a copy for me Ma, tell her I've amounted to something after all, get one for a school reunion, one for the bank, maybe get some sponsorship deals goin Top ten ,man and no hype, just pure talkin bollox ...... oh
Favourite period was probably when it first exploded used to listen to Souled Out with Stu Allen on key 103 first regular club attended was Quadrant Park. Though Mondays House night at a place called Fallows may have been earlier. Madis Gras and the backroom at Cream were also regular haunts. Was a big Weatherall fan in the early 90's.

Fuckin hell hank-the footie is the only thing we dont have in common! i used to love The Quad (espesh John Kelly),and i genuinely thought i was the only person who knew about Marina Van Rooy-i have all the mixes on CD if you wanna copy mate,classic. Thats a great list you posted,very "Renaissance" style-another club we frequented in Derby. I`ve most of them too if you want.

Miss Van-Rooy being the sexiest minx to come out of Liverpool hasn't ecaped my attention. Used to have a tape of her on a granada programme that also had World Of Twist doing Sons of the Stage live on it. Think she had a famous boyfriend, I gleened from someone else who remembered her but forget who. I have three mixes on vinyl, how many were there?

My favourite period of dance was probably around 1996, when I first got into it properly (I still love it to this day, BTW; I'm a bit of a clubber). A year or two ago, I made a CD of all the tunes I loved back then - the tracklisting goes like this (see if you remember any of these):
*Random fact: someone mentioned Ultraviolet's Kites in an earlier post - that tune was how Sasha discovered Maria Naylor (for it is she) in the first place. She did a live PA in my favourite club on NYE 2000 and I didn't go, so I didn't find out until afterwards. I've been kicking myself ever since for missing that.

It's gotta be 1989 to about 1995, the years when I actually went proper clubbing. Saturdays in the Sub Club (before it became over-run by stoodents), Thursdays in Rain (Slam being genuinely eclectic)are the two best nights that stick in my mind. I was always a fan of vocally US garage produced by the likes of Smack Records and Strictly, though I had a wee liking for the deeper UK "progressive" scene of the early 90's. Nah, thud thud thud shite has never been my bag, clubs and me have only ever been golf or football. If I want to listen to repetitive droning hi-octane gubbins I will put the Fall on at the wrong speed !
