Good point, Detweiler, though don't you remember being at school? The easiest insult for the mornonic school-yard bully to lay on the wimpy, not-good-at-sports kid was "You're gay". It's not exactly a compliment in that context, is it, therefore, it's a homophobic insult.

When I was at school, they hadn't started using the term "gay" as a homosexual identity ! It was always "poof" or "queer". I suppose it also helped me being neither wimpy nor useless at sport.

These days at school though, across the world, it seems as though they equate "gay" to "lame" rather than to homosexual, "so and so's new bag is really gay". Strange versions of language used by the yoof of today, I blame MTV personally.
