I bought it last night.. widescreen of course, otherwise it will be completely obsolete once I change my TV for a HD-TV....
I must say I'm a little disappointed of the package though... cheap box indeed! but what's good is the DVDs themselves.

So Anakin's 'Force ghost' reverted back 20-odd years whereas Obi-Wan's stayed the same as when he died? 
George Lucas is a bit of a twat really. 
And I'm still not happy with the Han/Greedo scene.
*edit* Just occurred that it may be that it goes back to before Anakin was seduced by the Dark Side. Fair enough, sort of.

I taped the film last time they were on telly a couple of years ago. Haven't actually watched the vids yet.
I finished watching the trilogy... and I found one difference that is UNIQUE to the DVD trilogy...
In the final scene of the Return of the Jedi, Anakin Skywalker is played by Hayden Christenson instead of the original actor...

But in the sense of continuity with respect to the STAR WARS saga as a whole, it makes more sense to see Hayden, a character that many are now much more familiar with than some old crusty feeble old cunt. And remember, the idea was to shoe them as they left this world as Jedi...and that's how he left...a young Anakin. That old dude messes with the chee of the universe as he was that whipper snapper Darthy Vedder!!!

The packaging on the dvd in the uk is shite-the inner boxes are ok,but the outer sleeve is thin card crap. Lucasfilm did a much better job with the Indiana Jones dvds.
My, Oh My... I'm not sure that I like the idea of simply erasing an actor's work like that. I think the original Anakin Skywalker did a fair job back in the 80's.
So I guess not only did they put the face of the new Anakin into the scenes where we can see him in the Darth Vader costume after the fight with Luke and the Emperor, but I guess you can see him as well as a "ghost" alongside Obi-Wan and Yoda at the end of the movie?
How does it look?? Is the retouch obvious, or does it look like it was always made like that?
I'm mystified. 
...and I just realize: if you're going to change the original actor playing Anakin with the new one, then logic commands that you do the same with Obi-Wan Kenobi, eh ?
So is Alec Guinness still playing the old parts as a "ghost" ???

They didn't replace the actor when he dies...but they did finally touch out his eyebrows, as they shoulda doen in the first place.
I think the ghost scece is meant to show them all as they died as "Jedi"...which would explain why Sir Alec Guiness still holds the OB1 mantle.

It looks like it has always been that way...and I'm happy about it. It's George's vision...and who am I to bitch about it.
They only changed the ghost.. it's the same actor when Luke removes the mask...
As for Alec Guinness, his role is far too important in the first movie, the role of the "man behind Dark Vader" is actually 45 seconds of movie only, as he's not the one who act as Dark Vader nor his voice.
They did change the emperor too, well, they changed him in The Empire Strikes Back, not in the Return of the Jedi.. as they took the same actor who did Palpatine in Episode 1...
