Tell Austrians about that They're really nationalist about their nation and traditions - just visit Graz or Innsbruk. Nevertheless true, a great deal of Austrians lived and worked in Germany - because of your aforementioned reason.

...German ofcourse, but - in the most parts of the country it's a very 'coloured' one, we speak...

...around Vienna is a similar dialect to ther 'Bavarian' one spoken ... ...and in the 'far west' of our li'l contry, they speak an 'Alemanic' dialect, which is similar to the east Switzerland one...

Oktoberfest is a good reason, the one in Mt. Angel used to be a great place to go.

Also in Austria there's a region called Schwabien and they don't even call themselves Austrians. A lot of people don't like Schwabs for that.

Austrian, German, its all german culture to me. to me German culure encompasses the the German speaking world, which is Germany, Austria, Lichtenstein, Luxemburg, and in parts Switzerland and Belgium. I might even count Alsace Lorraine. As in the middle ages Strassbourg was a regional center of German culture.

Agreed otherwise I'd have to mention that the first German University was in Prague, and claim Nicholas K(C)operincus as a German.

And don't forget the Südtirol in Italy. ;)

I've been there they don't speak much German there anymore. The architecture looks similar to Austria though.

I have a pen pal in Austria for about 15 years now... Don't tell me we have the same culture... I know what's going on down there ;). Even the bavarians have their own culture...

O.K. it's regional culture that differs. We here in Westfalia e.g. have other than the people in Cologne 100 km away.
