The Lost band called O.M.D

So who still likes them, i just got into them and i like them alot

another interesting band is Japan, my friend kyle started me into them, very odd

OMD is OK to me. Weren't they "found" by Tony Wilson? Or was that "24hpp" fiction? Are they still doing new stuff?

Yea but the only orignal memeber left is the singer, which hes the bassist, hes acculty a really good bassist, but um their still doing stuff, he just releasded and album like last year

I got two vinyls of them... After "Sugar Tax" I lost my interest. Perhaps it was when Mr. McCluskey stood alone...

well orignaly they where a dark form of punk, and they soon became all new waveish, but still held onto the darker side, but that soon changed after the guitarist left, and Mcculy was by himself.

I always liked "Genetic Engineering" and songs of that period of '83-'84.

I really enjoy their early stuff. Have a couple of old vinyls that I still play from time to time.

i only really knew their songs from the mid-80s when every preteen/teen 'new wave-type' girl in america was an OMD fan (because of pretty in pink, of course!). i got the forever live and die 7' for christmas of '86 (i think it was?). still have it.

i don't know any of their earlier material, but i adore so in love and secret. in fact i've been listening to these two songs repetitively over the past week or so.

Love OMD! Was just listening to Liberator album this morning, ironically. I wish they'd reunite (Paul and Andy and the other lads) and do a come back like Duran Duran and New Order have.

They're in my top 10 fave bands.

Plus their vinyl artwork was really cool, too! Kinda similar to New Order's.

I still get a tear listening to "was it something i said?"

Kinda fitting that this thread has popped up, considering their one other song that I've heard (via the excellent Post-Punk Chronicles) is "Enola Gay". Excellent tune, don;t think it has anything to do with Hiroshima though

I do like "If You Leave" (that's the P-I-P song they're known for), but that's about all I know of OMD

I listened to 'Organisation' today. A great record. Has aged well, i.m.o.

Yeh I quite liked them for a while in the 80s until I decided they were a bit soppy. I still have a couple of their LPs somewhere.

OMD is superb. Their first four albums are all classics. I think DAZZLE SHIPS is one of the most underrated albums of all-time. Absolutely brilliant band for a while. They definitely did go downhill after a while though. Their only Factory release was ELECTRICITY, which I think is one of the best singles of all-time. The B-Side, "Almost", is also a winner. Even some of their later tracks are great, like "Tesla Girls" and "We Love You". Be sure to listen to their self-titled album, ORGANISATION, DAZZLE SHIPS and especially ARCHITECTURE & MORALITY.

there's a famous clock in the hiroshima peace park that survived the blast. it stopped at the exact time the bomb exploded: 8:15.

Although I only have their "Best of" compilation, OMD has quickly become one of my favourite bands. I really dig their earliest stuff the most--"Electricity", "Souvenir", and "Maid of Orleans" are classics, fresh and innovative. Their later output is too poppy, too bland for my tastes, but I do love "Secret" and "If You Leave." I'm seriously considering buying their first three albums.

That was their best period.

After about 1986 they became "too commercial".

i did have Sugar Tax on cassette many year's ago,i thought they where ok as a band,but that was year's ago,did Mr McCluskey go on to work with the girl band Attomic Kitten??

Electricity was a sweet track...still is. Tesla Girls is a lot of fun, too, but it's a little embarrassing to crank it up in the car with the windows down....but that's just me.

I always thought that OMD kind of shadowed the marketing philosophy (or accidents) of NO. It's very interesting to find out now that Wilson and Factory had some involvement there. Growing up as a fan of the two bands, but having a very limited amount of information about them at the time, it seemed that Best of OMD chronologically mirrored Substance and that OMD was trying to follow both the artistic and business practices of NO.

OMD also always seemed to have that thing Saville talks about in New Order Story from the article 'How Cool is Cold', where a NO fan could rapidly go through a collection of music and know if there was a NO album in a stack simply by the style of artwork on the cover.

OMD started on Factory - i think they released Electricity. Saville designed the ARCHITECTURE & MORALITY cover also (probably others too?). I have a couple of their albums on vinal & recently got ARCHITECTURE & MORALITY on CD - it stands the test of time very well. For me Genetic Engineering was a great track - but it didn't do well in the charts & the more 'poppy' stuff seemed to do better - so McC veered the sound that way. It would be interesting if the two guys could get back together (they are meant to be talking again) & a return to the quality of their early stuff would be well worth hearing - certainly better than more Atomic Kitten filler!
