Roses Vs. Mondays?

I think if you ever saw the Stone Roses in 86/7 you would have thought them utter shit believe me - leather trousers ponytails - cock rock itself. Whereas the Mondays were the dogs bollocks- dirty white funk with lyrics you could relate to from 6 normal blokes. The magic was there from the start to me Tart Tart, Kuff Dam etc.. pish on Waterfall, etcc. :D Maya, i think growing up in England it is easier to understand this. I once went to see them play (supporting) & the band went to the wrong venue cause they were that pissed, and that was after the soundcheck. Pure class :D
Stone Roses for me,i never got to see them live myself,i and most of the Corby Order went to watch The Complete Stone Roses Tribute band not so long ago and they were ace..so that will do for me.
no question-Stone roses. I like HM's but i have to be usually smoking some greens to listen to them. Stone Roses-anytime, anyplace.
Roses! hell, the opening guitar chords of "Waterfall" seemed to lay the blueprint for Britpop and all that Blur & Oasis did

Its not an easy question as i love both bands BUT at a push I'd have to say the Happy Mondays as they are so original, alot of people just don't get them and i can see why they would choose The Roses. I think both Ian Brown and Shaun Ryder are both geniuses but of course i don't condone some of their behaviour lol.
roses. their eponymous album was my intro. to the manchester scene in '89 and i find it almost flawless. second coming was hardly that, but their first LP, fools' gold, and one love tip the balance.
the mondays are great, but i just don't enjoy them as much as i do the stone roses.

roses all the way - one of the few albums i can listen to from one end to the other without skipping tracks. couldn't stand the mondays as a yout, but like them now.
I agree that the Roses are a bit overrated, their debut is possibly one of the most over-hyped releases since Marquee Moon. However, i'm going with the Roses anyways for being the catchiest Brit power-pop band of the past 25 years since XTC.
The Mondays made party music and the Roses made listening music. Sally Cinnamon, Made of Stone, What the World is Waiting For, and One Love are some of the most universally catchy music ever produced.
One thing i'll give the Mondays is that their early career was a hell of a lot better than the Roses' goth-metal beginnings

Mondays for me, by many a mile! Although the Roses' first album is an absolute cracker, the 12" Freaky Dancin/the Egg, blew me away and really got me in to them.
Roses by a long shot! I've never really liked the mondays, but maybe I should give 'em another go. Anywho, for me hearing the stone roses confirmed that good music could still be made, I even liked their second album. If I ever put together a decent band I'm gonna cover some of there stuff live! Such a damn good band, I really hope they get back together. I recommend Hooky work with them, Elephant Stone is one of my favorite songs of all time!
Roses by a not inconsiderable distance. I never got the mondays, a few good songs but that were about it. Thought the inspirals were better than the mondays as well.
In retrospect now my favourite Mondays album is Squirrel and G Man...
The first Roses album is a classic obviously.
Look at it this way: The Mondays were the Rolling Stones while the Stone Roses were The Beatles.
Love em both and own just about everything on all formats by them both as well!!!!
Mondays for me. The Roses output from 87-89 is unbelieveable, but there was just that something else with the Mondays......and I can even forgive em for Yes Please
Elland Road 91 is one of the best times I've ever had in my life.
I`d say the Roses had more memorable songs but....

Happy Mondays' Pills 'N' Thrills is one of my top 5 favorite albums ever. I think it's brilliant.

The Roses were a fantastic band but they lacked the bizarre and totally unique brilliance of Mondays. I think Happy Mondays were one of the absolutely best bands in the world during their day.
Saw the Mondays a few times. The Cities In The Park Festival 1991 was the best though.was right down the front.Mad night!.
