Thank you to everyone who suggested places to visit whilst I am in Florida and Los Angeles. I have made a few notes.

Thanks again, we arrive on Friday

Have fun, luv! Mind you, if you ever get a chance to meet up with AgentWood, I'll be fooking jealous, lol! ![]()
but you need to tell us in which part of florida you will be!
remember, traveling from jacksonville (where symphonie lives) to miami (david sultan) is a longer drive than from john o'groats to lands end!
saying you're going to [insert state here] is about as specific as saying you're going to western europe, considering the distances involved.
unless you're traveling to rhode island, in which case this does not apply.

Rhode Island? Isn't that a salad dressing?

Anyway, have fun. I spent 10 days in Washington DC 15 years ago, and it was ace.
But, I still don't understand how you can eat so much food. We were 3 person ordering some chinees, and we got 3 plates, and one of the plates could feed us all. ![]()

thousand island. but rhode island is about the size of a bottle of thousand island dressing.

i hear that a lot, and it's true.
when shug and don were over we took them to dallas BBQ--texas-sized margaritas. you have to pick them up carefully with both hands. i think don and shug ordered lager, but the glasses were so big they had a difficult time manoeuvering them to their mouths!

I love getting those margaritas to go in the summer. They give you a huge styrofoam cup. Fun to drink with friends at tompkin square park.
just a couple of tips for ya mike when you get to florida, get yer arse into universal studious its tremendo, when there go to nba burger joint and order a monteray jack burger with an oreo smoothie. the burger by far the biggest n best ive ever had,in fact when they put it on the table i could not see anyone on the other side of the table. second tip, take some elasticated pants.

In that case, I've taken the food home and had it for lunch the next day. Also, sometimes a meal like that would be my only one for the day.

absolutely spot on. and it's only a five minute drive from my apartment!
but...if you have a young child (alix) with you, islands of adventure might not be the best place since it's mostly thrill rides (damn good ones, though). it does have seuss landing which is kid-friendly and looks like one big acid trip. the regular universal studios has more age-appropriate rides: men in black, jaws (if alix doesn't scare easily, because the shark keeps popping up next to the boat), shrek (opened after i was last at that part of the park) and a few others. revenge of the mummy is an indoor rollercoaster so you and your wife could take turns sitting with alix while the other goes on the ride, because i don't know about their height restrictions. it's actually a really good ride.
i haven't been to magic kingdom since 1988, but it's a great place for kids and i've always loved it. EPCOT is quite fun and you HAVE to go on the norwegian ride just because it's so bad. whatever you do, skip MGM studios. it's crap and universal kicks its ass. i've not been to animal kingdom, but i've heard both good and bad reviews.
mike is right, universal city walk can be fun for a night out. parking is free after 6 (?) and there are some interesting restaurants (albeit tacky ones) to eat at. downtown disney has a lot more to do and is larger, but there's really not much there that you wouldn't find in any of the other disney parks.
my favourite 'dinner and a show' place is medieval times. they present you with a paper crown of a certain colour and you sit in that area and cheer on your knight who is vying for the hand of the princess; this jousting and equestrian tournament takes place as you eat with your hands, the 'medieval' way. the first time i went with my best friend and we really got into it, banging our plates (which they ask you not to do), etc. the second time i went with my mum's best friend's daughter, her husband, and their two young boys. the boys LOVED it. you might want to give that a try one evening.
for a surreal and disturbing couple of hours you can go to the holy land experience, which is a the end of the road i live on. it's run by an evangelical, fundamentalist church, and you can relive the passion, listen to sermons and visit an almost life-sized version of what they think the third temple in jerusalem would look like if only the jews would accept jesus as their saviour so the temple can be rebuilt, signalling armageddon. my best friend and i went out of curiosity and came out of the place practically in need of therapy.
that's my basic tourist travel guide to orlando--the city beautiful.

I'm so glad I live no where near Florida or LA. Philadelphia isn't really a place for vacationers. Anyway, I now know I won't have to worry about my Depeche Mode, PSB, and Cure albums.

I think we're pretty not used to the old continent type of traveling, are we?
I just realized 2 days about that the Gaza strip is smaller than the island of Montreal... and there is such a comotion about that lot of land for so long!!
After all, Europe enters almost 3 times in Canada ;)

it takes about 15-20 minutes to cross the gaza strip going the long way. which is fine, because it's a pretty depressing place! crowded as hell, too, except for the israeli areas (which no longer exist).
my boyfriend my junior and senior year in college wanted to come visit from london for 10 days. i was in NYC and he got it into his head that he would take a bus to indiana to visit a friend who went to notre dame. i explained to him that that was the equivalent of saying, 'i'm in paris, let's stop by prague and pay a visit!' he had no concept of the distances involved. or the crushing depression one gets riding greyhound buses.
