the red cross is opening refuges in florida for hurricane survivors. i have the link below for my local refuge in central florida--my school is donating blankets, flood buckets (to be sent to new orleans) and health kits, as we've been told these are what the red cross need the most, but check the sites for other items that may be needed. i'm sure the link will give information about refuges in other parts of florida, as well.

anyone can help. please consider donating to your local red cross or another reputable organization. on the 'new orleans' thread (the old one) i posted a link to a site where you can find out how much each charity spends on actual relief services compared to fundraising, salaries, etc.
if you can't afford to donate, please keep the people of the crescent city in your thoughts.
