They were singing his praises on Test Match Special earlier, didn't think he should be for the chop on his return.
That's the thing, there's not really anyone. There was talk about Katich several years ago but his batting's not up to it.
Guys like Rod Marsh have been ripping into the captaincy here and with some due cause. Punter's made some ill-timed comments and decisions, proving to be a far less attack-minded captain than any of his three illustrious predecessors. He's still raw and may develop. He's worth his weight with the bat for sure.
We're facing a serious down-cycle over the next 10 years with cricket. Complacency's set in and there's not a lot of talent coming through.
Good time for England to milk it.

Stopped in the same hotel last week as the Aussie team. I was stood next to Ponting, Gilchrist and their kids by the lift the night before Day 1. Thing is, they looked totally relaxed !
Breakfast the next morning was comical. The whole squad were in the restaurant in their trackies with their own little area but their parents were sat next to everyone else. I saw some fella introduce 'Keith Warne' to someone, at the table next to me. Bit surreal, over corn flakes.
Great contest, the Aussies have battled superbly, that's why they're 'winners'. Just think a few of them are out of form and haven't been able to get going cos England's pace attack has been on fire.
Who's up for the Ashes 2006/07 ? and I don't mean watching it in the boozer. There will be thousands out for that, even more than usual. There must have been 10k+ at the SCG and MCG in 02/03 when we were so obviously gonna get whooped.
For so long we've only had 1 name for Aussies in England : barman. Now we've got loooos-AH :D

I was at the SCG, was awesome, been a cricket fan ever since.
Although I left about 10 mins before Waugh got his century, gutted.

So did I !! It was so hot, I was melting. Just wanted to get out before I found myself in a queue of 75,000 people. Couldn't believe it when I got back to the Hotel and discovered that he'd smacked a four of the last ball to get his 100. Not happy.
Similar situation in Durban at xmas. We booked our flight to Cape Town at 6pm on Day 5 which meant we were gonna miss the last session. It was either that or the next available flight woulda meant missing NYE in CT. So we took the earlier flight cos Tests rarely go 5 days now anyway. Course, this one did, with England chasing the last couple of wickets ! Gah !
