Been there 3 times and hope to be there permanently this time next year...
Places you must visit;
Rotorua (for volcanic pools of bizarreness and all things Maori). Kiakora (whales, dolphins and seals). Stewart Island (kiwi's). Fox's Glacier (brrrr....). New Plymouth (dormant volcano). Auckland (mini-London; clubs, pubs and automobiles). Northland (sub-tropical zone).
Wellington is a bit of a let down, although it's the capital, only go if its convenient!

Oh yeah, forgot; Hawkes Bay if you're into architecture; it's the biggest Art Deco city in the world and they have the most amazing outdoor open air spa...

Kiwiland is a place many seem to want to get away from. Very British though so I guess it'll feel something like home.

'Grass is greener' syndrome... One thing I find interesting; most Kiwis and Aussies who come to the UK to work nearly always leave. When the reverse happens the UKers seem to want to stay down under.
I think it all comes down to whether you want an urban or rural kind of lifestyle...
