I reserve the right to make fun of Che since he is a distant relative (although my great grandmother Angela denies this). Anywho, check out this Che Mart

interesting link to the contra cafe where you can buy coffee from former contras living in the jinotega region of nicaragua--in my opinion the most beautiful part of the country (also where the civil war began). the site says the contras defeated the communists. not exactly true, but what is truth in nicaraguan politics? the one thing i learned is that nobody really knows, but they all agree that all three somozas were asses!

the contras are mostly gone these days, but the FSLN (sandinista) party is enormously popular. however, jinotega was and always will be anti-FSLN for the most part. i have a set of photos i took in the jinotega cemetery, where many of the first fighters (1979-1980) are buried. some have FSLN flags on their tombstones--i'm assuming this was before the campaneros in the region became disillusioned with the FSLN and formed the contra rebels.

anyway, i thought it was an interesting link. i'd never thought of a pro-contra cooperative of coffee makers. another demonstration of the complexities of the politics of the nicaraguenses.

I saw once in a site a "I am with the guy who voted for Bush (twice!)" shirt. Almost bought it.
