i watched 'get smart' re-runs as a kid. i don't remember much, except for the beginning where maxwell smart goes through all the sliding glass doors and the last one slams in his face...or something?

Yes thats it. It still gets repeated every few years here, so I've seen all episodes.

Classis phrases: "missed it by that much" "sorry about that Chief".

Yeah. My roommates and I used to watch Get Smart reruns at 1am while we were in university.

I also have the Get Smart movie "The Nude Bomb" on Beta. Even then, it was kinda corny, but funny nonetheless.

My father used to laugh years afterward about the cone of silence.

he was a legend!!!

defo one of the funniest shows of the 60's. i must have seen that many repeats of get smart over the years. His classic line must have been: "sorry about that Chief", after yet amother balls up. Some of his lines with the Chief were classic.

strangely, i've asked some of my part-time mates at work whether they used to to watch get smart, and amazingly none of them did.

Cmdr. Drury: Smart, you appear to be in pretty good shape, do you work out?

Maxwell Smart: I jog 100 miles every day! Would you believe it? 100 miles!

Cmdr. Drury: I find that hard to believe.

Maxwell Smart: Would you believe, 50?

Cmdr. Drury: No!

Maxwell Smart: How about two push ups and a deep breath?

Been a rough year for Mel Brooks, losing his wife and now losing a friend.

grew up watching the old reruns of the show... the kid was too funny! grabbed this quote from the show c/o imdb.com:
