Why is it that every American band named after a city, state or continent is so terrible? I mean, Kansas? Boston? Europe? Chicago? The list reads like the tracklisting for the Spanish Inquisition's hot new compilation, Music for Torturing.

EDIT: It has come to my attention that Europe is, in fact, Swedish. I feel terribly embarrassed about all this, but I will retain the original post's content for clarity's sake. :ignore:

hey, the NYC Interpol was named after whatever Interpol is and bristish (mostly) The Police stole their logo from the NYC police. and Joy Division is British but they used thge city Warsaw... and Oasis is named after something that doesnt really exist in the British Isles... and Asia was a pretend British band named after the whole continent Asia... and, well, i don't really have any point in the end so i'll go to bed now...

It is a pretty MOR bunch you've listed there, and as Taboo No.7 said shortly afterwards, America were fairly lame too. A couple of technicalities though; Europe were actually Swedish(as Rian would grudgingly admit) and I thought that America were actually founded by a couple of German immigrant students who used a whole bunch of American studio musos to put flesh on the bones of thier songs. Another American band that uses a US city suburb's name is Manhattan Transfer(MOR jazzpop stuff including Chanson L'Amour) and there's always that Scottish band called Texas....Oh, and on the NO/JD front remember our fave band almost became The Witchdoctors Of Zimbabwe:nuts:

Yeah, Europe are a Swedish band. They just reunited.

But don't blame me. I hate them.

It's the final COUNTDOOOOOOOWN!! Dooweedwooooodooo!

One great thing VH1 did was vote that the all-time Worst Synth Line Ever.

Usually the accepted exception to the rule for the cities/states/continents bandname curse is Japan, but they were British and started out as, yes, a hair metal group...

It's true, sorry. But still, don't blame me.

If you have bad luck, they might come to YOUR town to play :D

Worst synth line ever? Hilarious! It's definitely terrible, but I kind of love it. That song never fails to get me pumped up for the task ahead.

It's funny that I genuinely LOVE Boston's "More Than A Feeling". Call me crazy, but I honestly think it's a great song. But everything else they ever did was god-awful or worse.

Oh, I forgot about Berlin. They have that one song - what's it called? I can't remember it's name, but I can tell you that it never fails to take my breath away.

Yes Asia had a hit with with "Heat of The Moment" in like 1982 before falling prey to alcohol

It's the theme for Gob Bluth's magic show...how can it be the worst anything?

And curses to whoever mentioned Asia before me...a whole continent, and you think they'd be able to manage more than a stale "rock-synth-crap" anthem for everything that was wrong about the Eighties.

As for "America" (and I can't believe I'm about to admit I know this), the guys in the band were army brats raised in Germany, but definitely American. And definitely awful :nonono:
